Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Chiat/Day was formed in 1968 when Jay Chiat and Guy Day merged their advertising agencies, and since then Honda, Porsche, Nissan, Yamaha, Apple, Mitsubishi, Nike, and Reebok have all hired Chiat/Day to create their advertising for billboards, television, and print media. In the last 20 years Chiat/Day has grown from a small, Los Angeles-based agency into a highly regarded agency commanding attention nationally. In his sketchy account, Kessler focuses on the atmosphere of working for Chiat/Day--the euphoria of gaining the Apple account or the pain when the Honda account is lost. The illustrations tell us better than the text why Chiat/Day has succeeded. Ultimately, Kessler's celebration of the creativity of Chiat/Day is impressive. Students of advertising will profit from this display of innovative design.

5.0 out of 5 stars ASTONISHING SUMMATION OF CHIAT/DAY'S GOLDEN ERA, April 27, 1999

This review is from: Chiat/Day: The First Twenty Years (Hardcover)
Worth the price alone for the insight into the Apple Computer "1984" campaign. Chiat/Day left an indelible mark on advertising before they sold out to TBWA.

This book should serve as a solem monolithic sentinel to (i) those hot shops which might consider giving up their autonomy for an infusion of cash; or (ii) those shops which suffer from mismanagement.
