We've camped as a family for 16+ years. 14 of which we were in a pop-up - and after three or four days - we had to find power, unpack the battery and hook it back up to the battery charger - and wait (or camp and work inside in darkness or flashlights). We recently traded for an old RV, with the 45W kit installed just prior to purchase. We've camped "primitive" for 15 nights, with three times the number of lights/fans, cloudy and rainy days, cell phones charging, iPods charging, and never had to open the battery compartment! I have an inverter that I'll wire into the back of the solar charge controller for those appliances that won't charge/run on 12 volts; however, I still love the system. I wish they would have wired the tape deck into the RV Battery instead of the engine. My fridge and hot water heater run on propane- we cook on a Camp Chef stove outside to avoid the stink and grease - I'll be interested in seeing how long the furnace fan runs once things get cold (ice fishing). It is much nicer/quieter for lights and bathroom fan than the constant droning of a generator (as mentioned by our camping partners as their generator ran to power there new Taj maTrailer), unless you spend as much for your generator ($2K for the Honda or Yamaha) as we do for our RV's and Campers. If these panels "wear out", I'll gladly buy more cheap replacements. The only downside I've dealt with is the "aftermarket" nature of the controler - it just sits on top of the counter. As I get more comfortable - I'll frame it in and count it as counter space lost, but well worth it. I'm certain that there are better solutions for long term RV/Camping ($$$$)- but for the amount of time we get to spend camping - this has been a quiet, enjoyable, addition to our campouts.

Nice kit for getting started. The screws get rusty so just be aware of that if you ever need to take them down.

A nice beginner kit. Easy to set-up. It comes with two 5 watt light bulbs which are great to use when the power goes out during a thunder storm. I have a deep cycle marine battery and a small inverter with this kit, and it's sufficient enough to power one of the bulbs all night long in addition to charging several of my electronics at the same time.

However, if you're looking to use more power, I'd look elsewhere.
