Great video!!!, May 31, 2001
This review is from: Chicago Bears: Super Bowl Shuffle [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The '85 Bears was the greatest football team in the history of the NFL. In 1985, the Bears were filled with people who were not only great football players, but who also had colorful personalities.
The Superbowl Shuffle is a great 5 minute song, but the video is so much more. Seeing Jim McMahon play the saxophone will blow you away! The Punky QB known as McMahon plays the sax almost as well as he throws the pill!
You've got to see Gary Fencik. They call him "Hit Man", but he doesn't know what it means. Watch Richard Dent. If the quarterback's slow, he's gonna get bent. The only person who should have been left out of the video was Steve Fuller. Fuller says that "when I'm not there, the feathers ruffle". However, you may recall that his bonehead plays cost the Bears their undefeated season - he was the quarterback during the loss to Miami on Monday Night Football in '85.
Anyway, buy this video and take a romp down memory lane. You'll love it. The Super Bowl Shuffle is also definitely one of the best rap songs ever made. This song brought rap to mainstream America!!!

.....and I'm not even a Bears fan! (And didn't even like rap.) I still lend out this video and have trouble getting it back -- nobody wants to give it up!
What is it about "The Superbowl Shuffle"? Mainly, the guys were truly talented, they were really into it, and they were used extremely well. Even the "batting order" clearly was given serious thought, starting with Walter Payton (who deserved the leadoff spot by virtue of his fame and status), continuing with Willie Gault (who was probably the most talented at this and gives the impression that he could have been a star in this game too), and eventually finishing with the Fridge who was right in the midst of his 15 minutes of fame and genuinely shows talent and great presence. Others in the video include Jim McMahon, Mike Singletary, Richard Dent, and Gary Fencik. The "lyrics" are creative and are specifically appropriate to each player's football role. Nineteen years later, I'm still doing the Superbowl Shuffle.
By the way.....the ladies seem to love this too, "for some reason," especially when the guys like Willie Gault shake it up a little.
