4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Chicago Blues Documentry, November 28, 1999
This review is from: Chicago Blues [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Don't read the professional reviews for this video as they DO NOT apply to this film. The reviews refer to a different film. This is not a feature film, it is a documentry about the blues sceen in 1972 Chicago. Blues is more than just music, it is a way of life. The film has great footage and features a no holds barred look at a few of the more famous blues greats in a not so glamorous setting. Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, J.B. Hutto, Junior Wells, and Floyd Jones are amoung those highlighted. Though it is mostly well done, at only fifty minutes this film is not long enough. Too much time is spent on Dick Gregory's ramblings and HIS reasoning as to why things are so bad in American inner citites. More of the music should have been included instead. Still, the performances that are shown are a ton of fun. I think the sequence at J.B. Hutto's birthday party is my favorite, or maybe it is the killer Buddy Guy/Junior Wells small stage footage or maybe...I loved 'em all.
