I continue to be impressed with the overall quality of this particular line of World Knives/Chicago Cutlery.I had bought the Chef's knife as a single item some years ago and should have bought a full set when they were still available.I added the utility knife and the paring knife this year. I do feel these are the best bang for the buck in low cost, intregal bolster knives. The steel is decent quality and the edges can be refined easily. Some may be dissapointed with the factory edge but those that know sharpening will not have a problem at all. If I did not already own a good slicing knife, that would be another I would buy in a heartbeat. The Sankuto looks trendy but honestly, if one can't get the job done with the Chef, Utility and Parer, they probably have a drawer full of unused knives.

If you're not going to buy a whole set--and it's not a necessity if you're not going to cook a lot--then buying just a few knives will be all you need. An 8 inch chef's knife, a bread knife, and this 5-inch utility knife will be more than sufficient for just about any task in the kitchen. The $8 price tag is great and it allows you to build up your kitchen tools supply on the cheap. This is a forged knife by a good brand, so I expect it will be very durable and work well for years to come.

I bought this for general, less demanding tasks like slicing cheese, toast or sandwiches, muffins or cakes. I don't keep it as sharp as the rest of my knives, for safety purposes, so I can relax while using it. I wanted a less aggressive point, as shown in the displayed picture, but it came with a different blade shape, more dagger-like, not exactly what I wanted. Sometimes you don't need the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I just received this knife and started using it. I wanted a knife of this size for peeling apples and oranges (I was using a steak knife before). The knife feels very comfortable in my hand, and it looks very nice. When I started peeling apples and oranges, I was very happy with it's sharp performance. I don't know if this type of knife should be any sharper, but I wouldn't want it to be. I mean, when I'm cutting fruit in my hands, I don't want to accidentally cut myself in the process. I hand wash it and wipe it dry immediately - looks great. Let's hope it stays sharp after prolong use. For now, I would recommend this product.

This knife is comfortable to hold, a great size but is just not sharp enough. I tried to sharpen it but it just would hold the sharpness.
