4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT buy !!
Do not purchase a more expensive knife strip.......this one is a fantastic value. The only problem I have with this product, and I do wish I could give 1/2 stars, because I would give it 4.5 stars, is that there are no installation instructions included, but it is fairly simple to install: (it comes with 2 screws which act as tabs, and there are black platic slots on the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Won't stay on the wall
This thing works ok, strong magnet, not hard to install etc. Once it is up though the little tabs on the side will not stay put so the thing always falls off. Not too safe when you are dealing with a bar covered with knives.

Do not purchase a more expensive knife strip.......this one is a fantastic value. The only problem I have with this product, and I do wish I could give 1/2 stars, because I would give it 4.5 stars, is that there are no installation instructions included, but it is fairly simple to install: (it comes with 2 screws which act as tabs, and there are black platic slots on the back, which slide out. Simply mark where the screws will line up and screw them into place, take out one of the tabs, slide one side of the strip onto one of the screws, then slide the tab you took out back into the strip and over the screw "tab". Done.) Still, installation instructions should should have been included. This product holds a 8 inch chef's knife, a 6.5 inch santoku, 2 9 inch slicers, a 9.5 inch bread knife, and about 3 paring knives (about 2.5 inches each) and a serrated tomato slicer (about 4 inches or so). The magnet is very strong and effectively holds the knives in place. This is a much safer method for keeping knives (do NOT store knives in a drawer) and will help to keep them sharper longer. Plus, this is more sanitary than a knife block in my opinion.

So, don't spend more on another knife strip. Get this one, you will not regret it.

I really like this product, however I don't use it for knives I use it in my sewing room to keep all my scissors at my finger tips! Great product for sewing as well as cooking! The magnetic strip is really strong. I would recommend this product.

Fabulous product at a great price. Easy installation. It holds approximately 3 of my larger knives and 4 of my smaller ones. It is just the right size for what we needed and is easily accessible.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but measurements are wrong., March 4, 2009
This review is from: Chicago Cutlery 1063947 Magnetic Knife Storage Strip (Kitchen)
The knife rack works perfectly. I have all of my knives, including a cleaver and chefs knife, on it. No problems at all. It looks and works great. Two caveats though. The rack is actually only 14", not 15". Also, it would be great if they would include a template for where to drill the holes to mount it. There are no directions at all, but it's pretty obvious what you have to do to mount it. A template would keep you from having to measure a half dozen times so you can be careful not to put extra holes in your kitchen.

...That is the best thing I can say about this. The magnetic strips are strong and secure. I installed it above my kitchen sink and there is absolutely no fear that they will fall.

But boy is it ugly. It is just a metal bar sitting above my sink. I suppose if I had a really nice set of knives it wouldn't matter. It does the job and for the price it can't be beat.

Having started a real knife collection with Wusthof cutlery, I was told by one of my friends who's wife works at Williams-Sonoma that a magnet strip is one of the best way to store your knives. Plus it looks awesome when you use one and it's full of knives too.

Deciding to use my retailer of choice (Amazon), I did a search of Knife Strip on Amazon and got a list of several. Some reviews were good, some bad on each one. What concerned me is that I wanted one where the magnets were strong and the installation was simple, yet sturdy.

I finally decided to go with the Chicago Cutlery one because of several reasons. The first reason is because past reviews mention that the magnets were very strong strong (a plus, you don't want them falling randomly... could be a potential disaster). The second reason is the price... other magnet strips have prices from $21+ and I didn't want to spend that much.

Although there are no instructions with this thing, anyone who is savvy with hardware & home improvement can mount these with relative ease. These come with 2 philips screws with drywall anchors if you don't have any available studs in your walls. Luckily using my studfinder, the length of this strip matched the exact width of my wall studs. I ended up using my level, a pencil, and philips screwdriver and mounted this flush against my wall. The endcaps of this knife strip need to be removed and despite the other review of how they are flimsy and fall off easily, my endcaps were as tight as a prison cell.

After about 10 minutes of installation, I had a very strong magnetic knife strip that holds my knives very securely, is mounted very tight (no leeway or flimsiness), and now my wall looks awesome as if I'm some kind of blacksmith hanging his knife collection on the wall.

This is a very good magnet once you have it installed properly. The problem is that it doesn't come with a template or instructions with the distance between mounting holes. This is easily remedied if you are mechanically inclined, but is not very fair to most everyone else. Additionally, the screws and anchors are not suitable for many kinds of walls, but again easily remedied at your local hardware store. I suggest holding the unit (with the tabs in place) at your desired mounting location and drawing a pencil line at each end flush against the mounting tabs. Then remove the tabs, hold them up to your pencil lines and mark your holes for drilling. Install anchors or drill into studs and adjust the screws so that the tabs slide on snugly. If they are too lose, you risk having the unit slide off the mounts. For extra security, install one tab and tighten the screw so that the tab stays in place and cannot be slid. This end will be your more secure end, so keep in mind that if the unit DOES slip, it will likely slide away from this end. Install the magnet onto this mounting tab and slide the other tab into place. Check for tightness and adjust screw as necessary. I recommend removing your knives by twisting the handle so that the blade comes of the magnet first. This will preserve your edges.

I like this holder, but the omission of installation instructions and/or a template, and the fact that it might be a safety hazard if installed incorrectly, keeps me from giving it 5 stars.

I just installed this and put my knives on, so I guess I'm not quite the expert. It was very easy to install and seems very sturdy. Before I put my knives on, I really pulled on it and it wouldn't budge. I put a longer screw into a stud on one side, and the other side just has the screw it came with. I was able to fit an 8-inch chef's knife, 10 1/2-inch bread knife, 7-inch santoku knife, cheese knife, my sharpening steel, and my kitchen scissors. I'm ordering another one right now because I have a strong urge to hang all my utensils up!
