The box and cutting board that came with the knives are a bit cheap, but for $15, who can complain?
As others have stated the wood handles are not finished to perfection, but I found that a coating of olive oil on those was an organic and food safe way to give them an even color and protect the wood. The blades are both sharp and sturdy. I have used the knives/cutters on different densities of cheeses and the right knife for the right cheese works perfectly. Among the cheese densities I have used them on are soft cheese (brie), medium (gorgonzola) and harder cheese (Parmigiano-Reggiano).
Frankly I have not used the wine stopper because I usually recork my wines if they are not finished the same day. The corkscrew tool is well constructed and one of the same quality typically sells for half the price of the entire set, which adds value as far as I am concerned.
You definitely need to hand wash the knives and other tools. I fear that even one cycle in a dishwasher would damage them. They are easy to clean by hand so this requirement does not diminish their utility or value as far as I am concerned.
The tools come in a wooden box which make them attractive gifts as well as personal kitchen and table tools. They look as though they cost much more than what I paid for mine.
Yes, it comes with a board, a few knives, prong, stopper, and opener. It's hard to say that it's an 8 piece anything, it's just a hodge podge of a few useful items for around your kitchen. I bought this to satisfy a need, a few decent cheese knives for when we pick up something nice from our local cheese shop. As you know, they stick to your knives, flake all over, it's just not pretty.
So far, the product has done fine. However, I expect the bottom to fall out when we least hope for it. I believe I would be more dissatisfied with this product if it were not for the fact that most of these little cheese knives are "value" over "quality" affairs. I have not found anything better, so I will stick with it. When it breaks (because it will), I will be forced to replace it until someone makes something better. (And no, I do not want a $250 cheese knife set, I just want something the feels sturdy in my hands.)
Recommend with serious reservations.
