5.0 out of 5 stars Good Knives, Great Brand, Great Price
Good knife set for the average home cook. They are sharp, look good, and functional for daily needs. The knives had some stains on them when they arrived, but they could be washed off with a little warm water and soap.

Over the years I've owned Chicago Cutlery so I didn't hesitate in picking out these for myself. At Christmas I watched as my sister-in-law opened her set also bought here at Amazon. I'm into cooking, but I don't have the funds to splurge on one of those fancy European or Japanese knife sets. I looked at all the sets under $80 that Amazon had, and this seemed like the set that best suited my needs.

If you're looking for a set that's well-priced and exceedingly functional, this is the way to go. Instead of having a bajillion steak knives (I hardly ever have company over besides my boyfriend), you get a handy-dandy mezzaluna that makes mincing and dicing fast & easy. They also include a santoku (so I can imitate my favorite chefs on Food Network), and a curved peeling knife that is surprisingly useful for prepping potatoes and other round produce. Top it all off with a storage block and pair of scissors, and you're styling. Why settle for mere basics like a chef's knife, bread knife, and paring knife when you can get more?

The knives themselves have a nice weight and feel to them, and they're extremely sharp. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I have no idea why it's so cheap on Amazon, but you better snatch this one up before they run out or increase the price!

Over the years I've owned Chicago Cutlery so I didn't hesitate in picking out these for myself. At Christmas I watched as my sister-in-law opened her set also bought here at Amazon. She got the Chicago Cutlery Insignia Steel 12-Piece Knife Set and was thrilled. I didn't need such a big set and have limited space on my counter tops so I didn't ask for the set she got. Also I was looking for a storage block that was black.

Then I opened my Bistro set and couldn't believe the difference. First off the handles were made of "Onyx Polymer." What it feels like a very inexpensive plastic. They make some of the smaller knives have practically no weight to them at all. I've owned a pair of Chicago Cutlery shears for over 20 years and love them. They have plastic handles so this was a huge let down when I got this set. The quality I'm use to is just not there.

I can't review the blades as I'm returning the set. Over all the set reminds me of some of the sets you'd find at a discount store and even at this price not up to the Chicago Cutlery usual standards.

I was pleasantly surprised when my wife told me she liked this cutlery set. The knives have been sharp enough for her daily cooking. The knives that make up the set are useful for us too. The wooden block looks good quality with smooth black finish. I got it on sale at Amazon and that made it a very sweet deal.

I have had this set for about 6 months now and they are great! All the knives are super sharp and do not rust. I cook on a daily basis and these definitely do the job. I also have a set of Ginsu International knives and those are also great.

These are my favorite "cheap"(cost not quality) knives. If you want a mezulina with a set of knives this is it. Of the inexpensive types, this company has better quality control it seems. They seem to come a little sharper than others. I like this set.

These knives appear to be excellent quality at a very good price. The order was easy to place and the knives arrived within a week. They were purchased as a Christmas gift for our daughter and I hope they will stay sharp and last a long time. I have a set of Chicago cutlery knives we received 32 years ago and with my husband's attentive knife sharpening skills, these knives are still top knotch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Purchase, December 5, 2007

I recently purchased the Chicago Cutlery Bistro Forged Piece Set as a gift for my mother-in-law. A person that can be picky. I read the reviews after the purchase and was concerned about the one that said it came with spots on the knives and the one that said it looked like it was used. My concerns were unfounded. The package came and everything was fine. The knives were in a taped box and each knife was covered in plastic. She was very excited about it and said it was what she had wanted.

2.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTED, April 2, 2008
This review is from: Chicago Cutlery Bistro Forged 10-Piece Knife Block Set (Kitchen)
This set of knives had everything we wanted. We liked the fit and feel. The look and the selection of knives the set contained. Unfortunately, all this means nothing if the knives are not sharp. I have never seen a set of knives that are so difficult to keep sharp. They are even difficult to get a good edge on them initially. I hunt and fish and have sharpened many knives using several different methods and have never had the problem I have with this set. They look great but I can't get them sharp!
