4.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Chicago Cutlery Item
Two main tips:

1) Don't use serrated knives on this wooden board, or if you do use serrated blades, be gentle. You can do significant damage to the surface of the board if you try.

2) It comes kiln dried and unsealed. You will want to oil it to seal the wood. Otherwise you risk cracking the wood as it is exposed to moisture through repeated...

2.0 out of 5 stars Wood is too soft
This cutting board is made of very soft, almost balsa-like wood. In a few short weeks mine has a chewed up surface and I doubt if it will last a year. I have to locate a cutting board made of rock maple, the good old fashioned mainstay of the meat cutting trade, with good reason. Save your money and avoid this cheapie.

If you treat this cutting board well, it will last. Just remember, it is wood. It will cut if you saw on it (especially with serrated blades), and it will break or warp if you soak it in water.

This size is great for every day use - small works for vegetable etc chopping for regular size family on daily use. Very workable - cleans well

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead on Arrival, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Chicago Cutlery Chilean Cherry Hardwood Cutting Board, 13-1/2-by-9-1/2-Inch (Kitchen)
The board was cracked when I received it. The crack was not at a lamination, but in the wood itself. Since the crack itself didn't seem to be a fatal flaw, I decided to go ahead and oil the board and use it. Within days, though the board began to warp and now it is to the point that it is far too unstable to use.

The wood used in the construction of the board is, as a previous reviewer commented, far too soft. Even with the limited time I've used the board it looks very chewed up. I bought this board to replace a 12 to 14 year-old Farberware board that had begun to warp but was otherwise in fine shape. Now I have a new board that is worse than the old tried-and-true. It's the trash can for the Chicago Cutlery board; I don't want to deal with the return issue and will check in the local stores for a better board.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of Money., July 28, 2009

The board looks used and ridiculous within days of real use.

Mine is chopped up, and slightly stained from fruit juices that would not wash clean. Knife marks are far too easily visible, and they appear even when the fruit is cut with minimal pressure.

Until now, I have always loved wooden cutting boards, but although this one is a perfect size, especially for one living alone, it was a real blight on the way the kitchen looked.

I would recommend a different board to anyone looking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy Cutting Board, May 21, 2009

I purchased this cutting board because my plastic ones kept melting from being left too close to the stove or put in the dishwasher. I don't use it for raw meat products as I know that's a no-no with wooden cutting boards. But this works GREAT for chopping veggies and such. It's a nice sturdy design and since it's entirely flat on the bottom, I don't get that wobble effect my plastic cutting boards had. And no worry about this one melting. This will be in my kitchen for a long, long time.

Just as promised and well packaged. This board is hardwood and lovely to look at. It has a lovely grouping of woods that make it pleasing to the eye and very functional. It is a great size and works well in any kitchen. It is not too thick, and therefore easy to handle and easy to clean.
Nice product- thanks!

1.0 out of 5 stars FELL APART IMMEDIATELY, February 1, 2009
This review is from: Chicago Cutlery Chilean Cherry Hardwood Cutting Board, 13-1/2-by-9-1/2-Inch (Kitchen)
I do NOT recommend this cutting board. My daughter washed it after the first use, and the board fell apart at the seams. I have NEVER had this happen with any other cutting board in 35 years.

I ordered this cutting board because of it's size. It fits into my kitchen sink, unlike the other cutting board I own. I have used it numerous times and continue to think that I made a good choice. It washes up quick and looks great!
