4.0 out of 5 stars Works Well, Cheap, Easy to Clean
I've had mine for a while and use them frequently in the kitchen. Handles heavy work such as cutting up raw chickens. Is generally comforable to use. Separate pieces and throw them in the dishwasher to clean. The reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that the bottle opener and screwdriver are an unneeded add on, that sometimes get in the way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor Quality
I used them the first time, and the insidw blades were left with stains when I cut tape on a bag of lettuce, and cutting open a bag of tortillas. These are supposed to be stain resistant, and they aren't.

5.0 out of 5 stars great gift for people who have almost everything & cook, October 1, 2001
By A Customer

Especially for people who cook alot (live to eat, rather than eat to live), these scissors are a fantastic gift. I have given at least a dozen pairs as wedding or house-warming gifts. I have had mine for eight years & they are still razor-sharp. I reach for them a dozen times each day. These would be a welcome gift for a valued staff member or an appreciated teacher, as the holidays approach. I couldn't live without mine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utility Scissors, June 25, 2001

These scissors are easy to clean. We have used them as a screwdriver, a bottle opener, wire cutters, and of course scissors. I highly recommend a pair of utility scissors for any kitchen. These come apart for easy cleaning, this is a great feature because it gives you an opportunity to dry the scissors very well and eliminate any bacteria growth or rusting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cannot do without these kitchen shears!, September 21, 2011

I have had a pair of these shears since Chicago came out with them; the first pair being a gift from my mother. They are sharp, they fit most hands well, they cut through all kinds of things including chicken with bones, salmon and other fish, ribs etc. They make quick work of trimming fat from foods. We smoke and can salmon in the late summer and these shears are key in cutting the pieces up the way we like. They cut through the salmon bones, collars wonderfully, cut the spine parts and even cut through the very large fins near the head of the fish. I use these shears almost daily, depending on the season. During salmon season I do use them daily, cutting up an average of 20 lbs a salmon a day but often there is 80-120 lbs to get through.

I have given these as gifts to others and hear back nothing but thanks for turning them on to a great find. I recently had to buy another pair as my previous pair, 9 years old and very well used, was starting to feel dull - after 9 years of heavy use. I will try sharpening or take to the hardware store where they sharpen anything but I will also have a back up pair on hand. This will work out because next time I have 90 lbs of salmon to cut up I will have a spare pair so my hubby can help ;-)

The shears come apart easily for washing the gore off completely and are dishwasher safe. They go back together easily and securely as good as new. The pair I received recently had a little plastic sheath which is nice but not necessary in my view. There is a screw driver (flat head style) blade on the end but it is not a problem for me. I have used it at times to quickly tighten a screw on a pot handle (my old revere and farberware stainless sets) and that is quite handy and saves a rummage for a flathead screwdriver. I have used the can opener to pop lids of home canned jars if I'm using the shears and need to open one - another use that adds to their appeal as far as I'm concerned. I should add that we have a pair of these also in our Camper because they are so handy to have around.

I have tried many other brands of kitchen shears and these are the best in my experience hands down. I really like the decent price too. We have people coming in to help as my mother in law is ill and in hospice and every person who uses these shears or sees them being used is impressed and asks where they can find them. I am ordering another pair today for another gift.

My hands are medium size. My husband has large hands and he finds these comfortable to use and a much better fit than the Henkle pair I have (another gift) which is usually found in the very back of the drawer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition Kitchen Scissors, November 16, 2010

These looked "too good" in the description. Who knew that they were all that they promised to be! When I do my plants, scissors not only can get wet, but grimy. It's near impossible to really clean them afterwards because of the joining screw that's either grommeted or fused into place. But, Chicago Cutlery's scissors come apart for easy cleaning. And, yes, they are sharp! I'd highly recommend these to anyone with a messy job to do that requires scissors.

These are undoubtedly the best kitchen scissors we have ever owned. A great feature is that they come apart for cleaning. They seem well made and cut really well, even plastic packaging. The ones we have come with a bottle opener and a screwdriver feature.

My parents gave me some of these years ago & they're still sharp (I take pretty good care of my stuff though ;)! I bought 2 more pairs of these bc my parents are buying a 2nd home & will need to furnish it; I know they like what they like & love these scissors, so I want to help them furnish their new place w/ as many of the things that their use to using/love. I personally love these scissors too! Don't expect them to cut pennies over & over again w/o getting dull but DO expect them for daily NORMAL tasks to be a great pair of scissors.

My scissors came without the black circle to hold them together. I didn't realize that was the problem - only that the two parts wouldn't stay together - until it was too late to return them. So I've always had to try to hold them together to use them - not very practical!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as described, January 27, 2006
This review is from: Chicago Cutlery Walnut Tradition Kitchen Scissors, Brown (Kitchen)
Walnut Tradition Kitchen Scissors (ASIN: B00005AM7R) do not have "Comfortable wood handles secured with triple-brass rivets", they have unattractive chocolate-brown plastic handles.

The bottle opener and screw driver extensions are a poor design feature, and simply get in the way.
