5.0 out of 5 stars Knives
Bought three and this particular knife is my all rounder, Chicago cutlery lasts twice as long, easily than other brands, stays sharper longer and replaces my last decade of Chicago knives.
It's hard to go wrong with the price and quality product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite like original
Admittedly my original, well-used and loved Chicago Cutlery knife set is over 25 years old, so perhaps some of the smoothness comes over time. However, in this one both the wood and the metal feel rougher and of lower quality than the old one. The handle is also about 1/4 inch shorter; the combination of shorter handle and slightly longer blade makes it a little less...

Update:09/27/11

OOPS. What happened? The original set came in a blue package, the two this time came in green and although the blade was the same, I don't like the new handle feel too much. I have bought several of these and this time I'm slightly disappointed in the feel and grip of the handle. When something simply works, don't change it.

Cheers

This knife is very "hand friendly" - balanced well and has a good cutting edge. Holds its edge about as well as any I've had. Found it very useful. Amazon has it priced quite inexpensively.

This size knife is the best I have used to cut meat off the bones and this knife stays sharp enough for the work I have done with it.

Admittedly my original, well-used and loved Chicago Cutlery knife set is over 25 years old, so perhaps some of the smoothness comes over time. However, in this one both the wood and the metal feel rougher and of lower quality than the old one. The handle is also about 1/4 inch shorter; the combination of shorter handle and slightly longer blade makes it a little less comfortable in handling. All in all, it is a very acceptable knife; it just loses in the comparison contest with its original.

2.0 out of 5 stars Had to discard, December 16, 2011

Bought it - loved it, left in the sink one time overnight by accident and it rusted out about 1/32 of an inch of the blade edge. I would normally not leave a blade in the sink overnight. But with some of the knives I have owned for 30 plus years - it is bound to happen sooner or later - and it does.

I have never seen one of my knives when left in the sink rust, except a couple of cheap ones purchased over the years. But I would have expected that. This was unexpected to be sure because of the brand name.

Had to discard. Maybe it was just defective, or just my fault.

If you buy this knife, treat it like you would a knife you might buy at a food store and never leave it in the sink touching other metallic objects for any extended time more than an hour or so would be my suggestion.

5.0 out of 5 stars inexpensive quality knife, November 25, 2011

This has become my "go to" knife in the kitchen. I have also used it for boning out deer & other wild game. Good balance and the grip fits well & doesn't slip in your hand. Holds a nice edge but dresses up quickly when needed. Overall a very good choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still On The Cutting Edge, July 20, 2011

This knife is nothing short of still being one of the finest kitchen knives on the market and a true favorite of mine. The steel is easy to sharpen and this particular length is great for most cutting jobs. I would actually prefer a 4.5 inch blade, but that's just my preference. A few swipes of this knife through a Chantry knife sharpener and you're ready for most any kitchen prep. I like the thin blade which makes this knife easy to maneuver when trimming meats or cutting into specific areas. The blade will sharpen to a razor's edge, so watch your fingers! One of the greatest knives at a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars good knife, July 10, 2011

I was looking for a set of knives with wood handles for a long time. I am trying to replace all the plastic in the kitchen with natural materials, one thing at a time. This knife serves me well every day. I need to sharpen it about one in two months, but after it is sharp, it works great. The handle is very pretty and has a good grip. And the size of the knife and the handle work well for me. I cook a lot of vegetables, and this is my go-to knife.

Have always liked Chicago Cutlery and were pleased as usual with this knife. We bought two to replace two others that have seen better days. Recommend this knife highly.
