Review of "Chicago L",

This review is from: Chicago "L", The (IL) (General Series) (Paperback)
As a Chicago transit railfan, I enjoyed this book. Many of the pictures I had not seen before. Each section begins with a brief history of the period followed by pages of pictures. It is a book to be enjoyed for the pictorial history it presents of the Chicago "L".

Lots of photos never before published and also good comprehensive coverage. Mostly a photo book with descriptive captions. There are other good books on the Chicago EL system but his book does not duplicate them. I recommend & enjoyed the book. Worth its price.

The pictures and text were excellent. As someone who is not from Chicago the book gave me an excellent visual as well as factual portrait of the "L". As advertised, the book had many pictures which I had not seen before. Altogether, an excellent job.

Great Memories,

This book brought back great memories of growing up in Chicago. As a youth, the "el" gave me access to all the wonderful cultural venues Chicago had to offer - the museums, ballparks, etc. The only item I wished the writer would have discussed more about was the Douglas Park line which I rode often. Chicago has a great asset in the "el", having lived in several other large cities with no rapid transit available.

A great book. Printed in the USA! A informative selection of photographs. I have never ridden the "L" and appreciate that this book is understandable to folks without local background.

If you are from chicago and ride the "el" constantly, this book is for you. It's historical background is excellent and rich with facts. I never knew we had a train running to Milwaukee (North Shore Interurban) unit 1963. Never knew we had trains stops at Willow, Oak st, Halsted (North ave), Schiller and Division. A must read!

Mr.Borzo's book is a welcome addition to the history of Chicago public transportation as it has many new photographs and provides a interesting narrative as to the people, places, and the general history of Chicago's elevateds and subways. I've found that most publications tend to use commonly available photos but this book has very few of those. These are seemingly mined from a new vein of information and I find them fascinating. For an expatriate Chicagoan such as I, this is a wonderful photographic trip back to a time and place long past where the Garfield Park L and the Stock Yards line can be seen again. I highly recommend this book for anyone who has interest in elevateds and subways.

For anyone interested in the topic of urban public transportation, this book is a must. If you are from Chicago, you have likely ridden the "L" at some point in your life. This book gives you the entire history of the "L"s development and is loaded with great photos and maps. It includes information on all the various "L" lines including those that have been discontinued. Get this while its in print or you will be sorry you missed it.

I was looking for a good photographic book about the Chicago "L". Not only about historical subjects but even up-to-date images of everyday service. This book totally satisfied me for the first search, a little less for the second. But I think this work is a must for everybody who's interested in public transportation, focused or not on Chicago "L", as it shows how urban transits can fit in an urban context and how they can modify it.
