Size is an issue and quality too.

The skates are absolutely adorable, and my 11 year old picked them out, but they came with issues. I am an advanced skater who has been skating for 30+ years, I know how to work on skates and repair them. First off, she wears a size three shoe, so after reading the reviews of the skates fitting pretty much to normal size, we ordered a size 5 figuring she could just wear a couple pairs of socks until her feet grew. But that wasn't the case, the size 5 fit her perfectly, which would have been an issue had we ordered the 3 or 4. Second issue, The wheels where so tight that I had to use a socket set to loosen the nuts, not my normal screw driver style wrench. Moreover, when I loosened the nuts, the bearings sounded like medal on medal. I lubricated them, but ended up replacing them with much better bearings. My daughter loves the look, but I really don't like the quality. Since the size 5 fits almost perfect, I guess these skates will be on craigslist much sooner than I hoped.
Truthfully, I should have just paid about the same, maybe a bit more, at the pro shop in the rink we go to. I would suggest if you are going to buy a lower end skates and don't know a lot about them you should check out your local pro shop. This way you won't end up dealing with costly returns or crappy quality. They will also make sure the skates are tuned up and ready to go. Besides, maybe you can bargain and get some free passes. Good luck on your purchase.
