This might seem a ho-hum gift set, despite being approved by Betty Crocker Kitchens, with an unremarkable nonstick cookie sheet and three jungle animal cookie cutters: a purple gorilla, a brown lion, and a pink elephant. What raises it above the rank and file is the inclusion of The Rainbow Bakery Children's Cookbook. If you can overlook the fact that it's basically an advertisement for Gold Medal Flour, you'll discover it's a well-organized, age-appropriate cookbook with lively, richly painted illustrations. In keeping with the rainbow theme, it features a menagerie of baking pals: Rosie the pink pig, Rusty the red monkey, Olivia the orange giraffe, Geraldine the yellow giraffe, Felicia the green frog, Benny the blue koala bear and Petey the purple pup. Not just a cookie book, the recipes, with delightful names such as Doodle Dog Danish, Oops-a-Dazy Orange Cake, and Ted E. Bread, range from healthy quick breads and hearty main dishes to play-doughs for craft projects.
