4.0 out of 5 stars Satisfies my craving for Chicago pizza
I lived in downtown Chicago for 3 years, so I got spoiled having all that deep dish pizza within walking distance.

This set lets you pull off a passable version of the famous pizza at home. Anyone who is a die-hard Uno/Giordano's/Geno's regular will find it easy to point out the faults. But you can try for years and never duplicate their sauce/crust/toping...

2.0 out of 5 stars Recipe is not Uno's
I bought this as a Christmas gift and we hoped to re-create the Chicago-style pizza we all love. We followed the crust recipe diligently, but it was just boring regular pizza dough. Just a heads up.

A word of caution--my crust recipe had a misprint. It called for 2 TABLESPOONS of salt--way too much. I'm pretty sure it meant 2 TEASPOONS.

Also, when you make your sauce, I've found it helps to add a can of tomato paste and reduce the sauce over high heat in a sauce pan. Get the moisture out--otherwise your pizza will turn into soup in the oven.

4.0 out of 5 stars The included dough recipe has a very bad error, January 21, 2010

The hardware is sturdily built - worth the money. The included pamphlet has a recipe for dough that calls for 2 Tablespoons of salt (that's 1/8 cup). It has to be an error because that amount of salt would make the dough taste horrible and be very unhealthy. Doughs typically have more like 1/2 to 1 Teaspoon of salt.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good deal but could be better, February 3, 2009

I am new to making my own deep dish pizza and thought this would be a great deal. The pizza pan and the spatula are excellent and easy to use. The one thing I thought would be better were the recipes. The dough recipe was a little bland. I will have to try a few other dough recipes and see how they work.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is great, February 4, 2009
This review is from: Chicago Metallic UNO Deep Dish Pizza Set (Kitchen)
I've been making pizza from scratch for over 20 years and this is some of the best I have had. The dough is a bit bland - but most pizza dough is. Just add some italian herbs and garlic and go.

This was pretty quick and easy to use - I did the dough in a bread machine and then let it rise outside of the machine.

If you like to make pizza from scratch, this is a good way to go. The biggest drawback is that a 12" deep dish probably will only feed 3 people, depending on what else you have and how hungry you are. A teenage boy could probably polish one off by himself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth the Money, October 31, 2010

This little kit is well worth the money. The pan works wonders compared to all other pans I've used. I grease it just a bit before placing the dough in the pan and spreading it out. The pizza crisps up on the bottom and tastes wonderful. I've had no problem at all when following the included recipe, except for adjusting the amount of salt called for in the recipe (should be 2 teaspoons, NOT 2 tablespoons). After receiving this pan and making a pizza, my husband declared he could eat pizza EVERY day. So, I began making a pizza every day, varying the toppings. Amazing how many toppings one can come up with when challenged. Well, he ate pizza for about a week and a half before I had to go out of town. That broke the streak, but we are both still in love with this pan and will buy more so we can invite friends to share in the delightful enjoyment of homemade pizza.

By the way, I do use a pizza stone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good pizza package, September 20, 2010

This is a great kit. I was able to use it once already. I made the crust in the recipe, following the other reviews in that I only used 2t salt instead of 2T. The pan is pretty non-stick and the spatula rocks. It's perforated on the edges so it crosses as a knife to break up pizza that's not cut so well. Good product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just buy this - you won't be sorry!, August 17, 2010

Several months ago I spent a lot of money on a pizza peel and pizza stone. The results were a disaster! Kitchen filled with smoke, alarms going off, and pizza burned to a crisp and black on the bottom. Wish I had seen this set before that. This pan and dough recipe make GREAT pizza! Just remember to cut the salt. The recipe inexplicably calls for 2 Tbsp - way too much! Probably should be 2 teaspoons, but I use only one and it turns out fine. I also rub a couple of Tbsp of olive oil on the bottom of the pan. That way the crust will bake a golden brown and won't stick to the pan. Easy cleanup, too. The pan and spatula are heavyweight - nice quality. I still use the pizza stone - underneath this pan. No smoke, no alarms, no more black pizza. Life is good again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, September 2, 2011

I am still working out small adjustments to my crusts, but this pan, by far is my favorite! I have the cast iron 14" as well and the UNO delivers a better, crispier crust in the oven. A good tip is to have the oven at 425 and to adjust your racks to lowest and highest - lowest for the majority of the cooking time to achieve that crispy crust and the highest for getting that bubbly cheese on the toppings to a golden brown ( just for the last 5-7 minutes. Would highly recommend this pan...may even get another one.. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes an awesome pizza!, January 29, 2011

Just made my first pizza with this kit and it is awesome! Only used 10oz of mozzarella/provolone cheese as indicated in the Uno website. Didn't see chunky style pizza sauce at my local grocery so I used a half can of contadina pizza sauce mixed with a half can of diced tomatoes canned with italian seasoning. I drained the tomatoes before adding. As other people indicated, use 2 TEAspoons of salt. I used all purpose flour and regular old vegetable oil/(soybean oil). Wish I would have checked Amazon first - I paid $3 more locally.
