Purchased this engraver to replace a $70 value electric one which failed after years of use. It never did penetrate the M2 tool steel very well. The pneumatic pen has a much higher impact rate, so it creates smooth, deep engravings in the M2 tool steel. (very hard material) I believe the tip is carbide. I was hoping to get diamond, but it's not available for this tool. The tip, however, looks like new after several uses, so maybe diamond is not needed. The instructions recommend filtering the air and regulating it to 70psi. I didn't invest in a filter/regulator, and am using the plant air pressure, which is 95psi. The instructions say this will dramatically shorten the life of the engraver, so consider this when purchasing. A flow control with a small gauge would work to limit the pressure at the pen while it is operating....I may use that technique.
It appears to be well made and I am very impressed at how well it works so far.

I used this tool to clean limestone rock off of fossils. It is good for that purpose, and doesn't do as much damage to the fossil as an electric engraving tool like dremel. It is slow work and doesn't remove much at a time, so if you are going to do a lot of this kind of thing get an air scribe.

Bought this as a low-cost alternative to the chicago when preparing fish in rock from the Green River Formation. It surpassed my expectations, performing even better than the Chicage had done. I used it to prepare a 18" Diplommystus and it was incredible.

Had to get an adapter from LOWES for less than 2 bucks. After that pluged up to my compressor and I was preppin fossils. Works as well as the lab stuff for a fraction of the price. The slider on the base of the shaft to activate is in a bit of an awkward spot but is solid and works fine. Came quickly with an extra bit.

I'm having trouble with the "studder " and stopping of the tool while trying to work with it. I've changed pressures, made sure it was lubricated correctly and it still "hangs up". At this point I'm not happy and don't dare use it on something of value like my guns.

I use this almost daily, and it works well for my job when rebuilding engines and having to mark things on parts.
