Gorgeous indie book, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Real Chicago (Hardcover)
I can't fathom the bonehead above who gave this one star based on the fact that they had a disagreement with a retailer. This book is an extremely high-quality indie book that's full of Sun-Times photos so vivid they almost give texture to the page. I am a fan of Cahan, Williams, and Samors' other books, but this is my favorite of the bunch. The Chicago we live in today still bears some of the echoes of the Chicago in this book, but rarely have I seen the pre-1980's Chicago presented so sharply and with so much character. This is a beautiful coffee-table book and worth a look in particular if you're a fan of black and white photography. Very legit and miles better than other books of its type.

Essential Chicago history., November 11, 2009
This review is from: Real Chicago (Hardcover)
An essential must have Chicago History. And beautifully printed.
If you can only own three such volumes on /Chicago history,,,,,,,,"Real Chicago"
could be number one, and number two......
Unlike a forest of such histories, "Real Chicago" shows a restraint in publishing
photos, not seen in
other collections, and not a hodge podge easily tossed together.
This book is a magical keyhole, thru which we can observe Chicago's otherwise lost, everyday past.
If you love Chicago, this book is aphrodisiac.
