Giddy over my new skates!,
By
This review is from: Chicago Women's Rink Skate (Sports)
I recently bought skates and roller blades for my kids. As I was teaching them how to do it I remember how much I loved to skate as a kid. I'm 35 and "curvy" and didn't think my ankles could handle roller blades. Plus I love the retro look of these skates. They're exactly like the ones I had as a kid. The only difference is the color of the wheels. These ones are a pale, rosy pink - not the hot, orangy pink in one of the pictures. Also, some pictures show the heel as black, but mine came in the light brown.
I wear a size 9 shoe and ordered an 8 based on the other reviews. I'm glad I did because the 8s are just about perfect, if not still a little big. The wheels don't spin as easily as I remember from 25 years ago which is a good thing for someone like me who wants to take things slow. The construction is quite sturdy. I was a little concerned about how well they could handle my "curves", but I felt very comfortable on them. I am thrilled with my purchase and plan on spending lots of time skating with the kids both outside around our apartment complex and at the rink once I get used to being that mobile again.

Great skates,

At first I was considering buying a size smaller because the previous reviews, but something told me to get my regular size because I have wide feet. I'm a size 9 and ordered size 9 skates and they fit perfectly. So if you have wide feet, order your regular size.

sweetly disappointed,

The skates are beautifull but they do not roll as good as they look. I skate well but in these I lacked confidence and became very afraid of falling. After oiling the wheels they continue to leak black gook. The Chicago company owner was not helpful at all and became angy and rude at my request for help in fixing the problem. I am very disappointed and will not purchase another Chicago skate.

I love my new skates! The wheels aren't quite as orangey-pink as shown; they are more of a pastel pink. AND you may want to order a size or half size smaller than what you wear. I ordered my shoe size, and they are big. But I got some insoles to help them fit, and now I'm good to go. Overall, I'm quite pleased. I had a friend pay the same amount for similar skates at a sporting goods store, and her trucks/bearings are plastic. So these are definitely better skates for the money.

Perfect for the Price,

We did NOT find the skates running small as others have commented. I actually bought smaller based on advice and had to return them for larger (normal shoe size). The return process was quick and easy. The skates are what we expected based on data and reviews. The skate is well constructed. The boot is leather with the outside being cleanable. The wheels are as adverised - they have reduced spin movement - making the skate just right for a novice. These skates will get my two daughters (by means of the hand-me-down) through the "skating party" era over the next two years.

They hold up well. It's been a year of heavy use and they still look new. Skates arrived quickly. I'd definitely recommend and have.

Chicago Skates a good buy,

The Chicago Women's Rink skates are reasonably priced at $29.99 and have performed well for my 9-year old daughter. She has had no problems (i.e. sore feet, ankles or blisters) breaking them in. Finding roller skates (as opposed to inline skates) in retail stores is nearly impossible and the prices were at least double for what I paid. I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for recreational purposes.
