Christmas has arrived early as America's most successful rock band, CHICAGO, and producer Phil Ramone have teamed up for the release of the band's third, and perhaps most rocking, holiday recording yet with "O Christmas Three" -- also known as Chicago XXXIII.

The legendary band with horns could easily live on its many laurels without going into the studio again. Instead, members Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider, Jason Scheff, Lou Pardini, Tris Imboden, Keith Howland and Drew Hester treat us to 14 Christmas and holiday favorites that have been "Chicagoized" with that famous sound we've all come to know and enjoy since the late 1960s.

"O Christmas Three" will thrill longtime Chicago fans and will probably enlist many more who are simply looking for a wonderful holiday recording.

From the jazzy "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" and "I'll Be Home for Christmas" to the rocking "On The Last Night Of The Year" and "Rockin' and Rollin' On Christmas Day," Chicago XXXIII is a nonstop holiday musical treat that is performed to typical CHICAGO perfection.

Solid vocals by Lamm, Scheff, Pardini, Loughnane and Howland are supported by hard hitting brass runs and licks by the force known as Pankow, Parazaider and Loughnane.

Guest performances by artists Dolly Parton, America, Steve Cropper and BeBe Winans add to the holiday spirit as if CHICAGO simply invited some of their musical friends and us over for some hot chocolate and a cozy, warm fire.

Chicago XXXIII has definitely become one of "My Favorite Things!"

Christmas in October!!!! October 6, 2011
Format:Audio CD
When I first heard that Chicago was in the studio doing another Holiday album
I said to myself "Oh No not another Christmas album from these guys!

But WOW...... was I pleasantly surprised when I received my copy of Chicago XXXIII in the mail on Saturday.

"O Christmas Three" is not your typical Holiday album...
It's essentially a Chicago album, and a pretty darn good one at that!
The band decided to select some mostly obsure Christmas songs and Chicagoize them for their latest project.

The band seems to be reenergized by the addition of Lou Pardini on keyboards and vocals, who replaced long time member Bill Champlin in 2009.
His vocal contributions are outstanding throughout the album, and he blends in perfectly with the rest of the band. Great job, Lou!

The music runs the gamut of their long and storied career, as Chicago explores about every style of music on the album...... You want 50's style rock and roll, "Rockin around the Christmas Tree" flat out rocks.....You want big band/swing, then the band hits it out of the park with "I'll be home for Christmas"....there's jazz, flat out rock and roll, and my Favorite track the latin/brazilian jazz infused 'My favorite Things, arranged by Robert Lamm.

On the obligatory ballad, (after all it wouldn't be a Chicago record without a power ballad, but there's only one on this CD, as most of the album is mid and uptempo!!)Jason Scheff sings beautifully on "What are you doing New Year's Eve?" ..

There's even an original song "rockin and rolling on Christmas Eve, co-written by Lee Loughnane
and featuring Steve Cropper of Booker T and the MGs fame on a scorching guitar solo.

America's Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley lend their guitars and vocals to " I saw Three Ship's' a mostly organic, acoustic track, which is superb...

Dolly Parton and BeBe Winans also lend their talent along the way....

The album for the most part, flat out rocks....with several upbeat numbers.
The horns are blaring again in their full glory....

The only downside on the album is one track could have been left off... 'Jingle Bells"
in my opinion doesn't break any new ground and doesn't work with the rest of the album.
but all and all a great effort from the band.. You could tell they had a lot of fun making this music.

I can't wait for the next Chicago album of original material....... The band says it already has several songs which they are polishing up for their next venture and something new is expected in 2012...

Until then, ENJOY THIS CHRISTMAS CLASSIC!!

Great New Music October 4, 2011
By ELO's
Format:Audio CD
The music starts out strong with the great horn section playing loud and true, it really is a Wonderful Christmas time. Dolly Parton sings the backup on this first tune and does a great job. America sings the lead on another tune. I really liked the first 10 songs, then #11,12 and 13 sounded weak. The vocals didn't really match the music too well. But they got it back together with a little mixing up of two old favorites for a big finish, complete with little kids singing! If you liked Chicago 25, you won't be disappointed. (Chicago's first Christmas album is my family's favorite every year!) I listened to this new CD twice today, and will probably put it away until after Thanksgiving. But then it will be back in the car, and on my MP3 for the holiday season.
