Nearly perfect, but slight lacking in some departments...,

My wife and I saw this while browsing for items before our daughter was born. We were really pleased when we received it as a gift, as it was something we wouldn't have necessarily bought on our own. This seat is fantastic if all of the conditions are right. Yes, it is sturdy, holds up to 37 pounds, looks cute, and washable (but you have to really tug to free it from the metal ribbing holding it together). But, there are some things that are annoying. I have yet to figure out how to collapse it down for easy carrying in the bag, and usually just disassemble it. The tabs that lock the legs seem to catch against it, so folding it down to fit in the bag just hasn't worked. The biggest issue is finding a table it'll work with when you go out. You have to have a table without a central pillar support, but rather four legs on the edge, or else the weight of the child will cause the table to tip. This isn't a matter of weight, but how it is displaced over a surface. You're putting over 20 pounds on a low point of a table, so if the legs aren't there, it's useless. Having said that, when you have a four-legged table it's fantastic. This chair has been great when our daughter spends the weekend with her grandparents, or when we want her closer to us during dinner. While we still use her highchair, this lets us keep a little closer eye on her while we try to eat. Given that so many restaurant tables do not have legs on the edge, this has been seeing more home duty than anything else. When we find a place we can use it, we always bring it along and it never fails to keep our daughter safe and out of the way. It's a neat idea, and with a little improvement it would be a necessity. For now, it merits 4 out of 5.

This is is a great item!,
This review is from: Chicco Deluxe Hook-On High Chair - Nature Pattern (Baby Product)
We got this item as a late shower gift and we love it. Our daughter is in a bigger carseat now so we no longer have the luxery of the carrier seat when we go out to dinner. But she also lacks the abilty to sit up totally on her own. She needed more support than the typical public highchair. This item gives her that! It gives her the back support to sit up during dinner and she loves it. She will sit there and play and look around the whole time! It is also making her more confident as she is learneing to sit up on her own.
Another big plus for us it that it is always clean! The public ones can be so dirty and gross sometimes, but we never have to worry now! Another great feature for us was that it folds and stores easliy in any car and attaches in a stap to any table. This seat really is a great idea and a toatl must hvae when your child is out of the carrier.

A Must Have For Parents On-The-Go!,

My baby is 6 months old and no longer uses his infant car seat. When we go out to eat he has nowhere to sit because he is still too small for the resturant high chairs. I bought this a couple of weeks ago and it is Perfect! It fits on any table. It is small enough for him (15lbs) and will be big enough when he is 36lbs. I recommend this to all parents, even those who don't go out that often because when you do you will wish you had it.

Awesome Chair! Great Baby Shower Idea, Too!,

My husband bought this chair for our 6 month old daughter to use on a family vacation over Thanksgiving. It worked like a charm- and had the whole family talking about what a great chair it was! Although it is a little more costly than the other booster/clip on chairs on the market, we feel it is definitely worth it! Our daughter is a little small for restaurant high chairs (and who wants their kid sitting in who knows what on those dirty old rickety things anyway?) so we bring the Hippo with us. We don't use the bag because we find it to be time consuming to collapse it and then re-assemble it, so we carry it in like another reviewer mentioned. People constantly stop by our table when we are out and ask us where we got the chair, it is that great. We highly recommend this chair if you need something for Grandma's house, family get togethers, dining out or even just using at home. (I have turned into a bit of a clean freak lately so I also recommend you get those stick on disposable placemats to stick on the restaurant tables under the hippos to ensure a clean placemat for your baby!) Another thing- we bought the Chicco Mamma high chair because we thought it had some great features but also because it looked less conspicuous and cartoonish than the competition. Although looks really shouldn't matter as much as function in baby gear, it is really nice that Chicco is making stylish, understated products with subtle colors and patterns. This chair is no exception.

No more highchairs.,

This clip-on chair is the best thing I think I've bought in a while for my son. He is 6 months old and he LOVES sitting in this chair. It is more sturdy than the regular highchair we have and I will probably never use it again. It is portable and can hook on most tables, even the ones that have lips on the side. I would recommend this chair to anyone who doesn't have room for a conventional highchair or is looking for something easier and more portable.

The BEST Highchair ever,

I've been using the Hippo Hook On Chair for over a year now and I love it! Whenever people come over to our house they always comment on how great it is. We originally had a conventional highchair which was great. However it took up so much room. This highchair lets our son be right at the table with us which he loves. I also love the Hippo style because it has more cushion than the cheaper Chicco chair. It's worth spending the extra money on the Hippo model. My only complaint about this chair: IT IS HARD TO CLEAN! The first time I had to take the material off the bars it was so frustrating. And same thing to get the fabric back on after! However, I do have to say that it has gotten much easier to remove the fabric after time. I don't know if it's because we got use to it or because it stretched a little. Overall, I do not regret getting this chair and would recommend it to everyone. And believe me I am extremely picky. Because of the "cleaning" issues I give this product 4 1/2 stars vs. 5.

We were extremely excited about this seat when we bought it and it worked out well for the first several months before our baby got too involved during meal time. It was wonderful to have him at the table with us. He was very comfortable, it fit well on our dining table, and it looks great and saves space. But now that our little 9 month old is getting much more involved such as feeding himself and making a mess, this chair became more of a problem. It has no tray, so there are scratches on our dining table from our baby banging his spoons and toys on it. The food gets caught in the clamps which are right in front of the baby and food tends to get into the crevices. There is a big space between the baby and the table, so food falls in the cracks and onto the seat and floor. It is possible to remove the seat covers, but it's not easily done and I don't think it's washable in washing machine. Also, though this is suppose to be portable, we've never taken it with us to restaurants because it's very cumbersome to fold up. So unfortunately though there are qualities that we love about this chair, we're now in search of a booster or high chair that has trays that can be moved closer to the baby's body to prevent messes and a removable tray that can be easily washed.

We are in love with this chair by Chicco. Our daughter is 18 months and right at 20 pounds and we absolutely don't know how we got along without the hippo chair. I wish we would have had one for our other children when they were babies. We take it into every restaurant and to all of our friends house - it is so convenient and sanitary. We will definitely be using it until our daughter reaches the weight limit. LOVE IT!!

Only use with a 'no lip' table!,

This product is a great idea, but this was buyer error on our part. Our eating area was rather small so a high chair would have been a space taker, this product fit the bill EXCEPT we have a lip under the table all the way around and it was useless because by the time our son was ready to sit up and eat his little thighs were too big to squeeze under there (and he wasn't a 'big' baby). My parents were able to use it with GREAT success for my nephew, so the product itself is wonderful - just MAKE SURE there's no lip!!!

I put two of these on my registry. We have an 18 mos old who uses a regular highchair and we're expecting twins. We don't have space for loads of high chairs and plan to use the Hippos mainly at home.
We received one of these chairs at a shower the other day and I popped it open to figure out how to use it. I couldn't believe how simple it was to set up - the directions fell behind the couch and I didn't even need them to put it together! We have a rather deep skirt on our table and the chair cleared it with ease. I immediately tried our 18 mos old in the chair. She loves it! It puts her actually at the table with us for meals or when I'm crafting and she seems very comfortable - the chair is padded better than her highchair! I think that she has laid claim to this chair and that we'll have to hope she'll use a booster by the time our babies are ready for their Hippos! I haven't taken the chair apart for cleaning yet, but I can see how to get the cover off. I imagine it would take a strong tug or two to get it off, but I'd rather tug a bit to get it off than have a cover that slips and slides while the chair is in use. It seems very sturdy. I tried to adjust the chair while our 18 mos old was in it and it didn't budge, which pleases me. Yes, admittedly, she is a little bit out from the table (mere inches), but closer than she was when we tried to pull her high chair up to the table. I'm enamoured with this chair and wish we'd known about it before our 18 mos old was born - I'd never have bought her highchair! I don't know how much 'public' use our chairs will see (not going to be going out to eat very often with 4 young kids!), but I am happy to know I have sturdy chairs that can easily go to Grandma's house. Bottom line - if space is an issue, this is a great product. If portability is an issue, this is a great product. If having a family table for meals is important to you, this is a great product. I would definitely buy this again and I highly recommend it. |
