5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the best infant seat, period!, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
I had the original KeyFit infant seat for my daughter and we were just in a crash 4 days ago. It was 40mph head on crash and my airbag deployed. My baby was perfectly safe in her KeyFit and I am so thankful to Chicco for making a superb car seat. I replaced it with the new KeyFit 30 and couldn't be more thrilled. If there is one good thing that came out of the accident, it's that I got the new KeyFit30. All the great features of the original and now rated to 30 lbs! After being in the accident, I definitely want to keep my daughter rear-facing as long as possible.

Chicco also addressed what was the only complaint I had on the original seat - the canopy didn't stay open and wasn't big enough. Now it stays open like it should and they added the extra visor part. Perfect!

The only downside to the new KeyFit 30 is the color choices - I liked my grey and green original colors better, but you can't complain when everything else about this seat is perfect. The fabric is super easy to keep clean and I have not had a problem with my baby sweating in it like some other reviews have stated (and we do get hot summers, but I do also have A/C in my car). The ease of installing the seat and of getting baby in and out is great. I will say that in some cars the LATCH attachment isn't the best fit, and it's better just to install the base with the seatbelt (the case w/my Toyota Matrix).

Really there are no faults with this seat and I am so thrilled that it now can hold my daughter until 30 lbs (which will be quite a while as she is on the small side)!

Absolutely my highest recommendation on this car seat!

5.0 out of 5 stars A breeze to install, very sturdy and comfortable, October 4, 2007
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
We were in a car accident and had to replace our Graco SafeSeat. We decided to go with this seat because of the promised ease of installation. Our SafeSeat took quite a while to install and never really seemed secure. This seat was so easy! I installed it in less than five minutes and it is very secure. You just snap the LATCH connecters (which are cleverly designed and easy to use) onto the hooks in your car and then pull a single strap coming out of the middle of the base.

The seat itself seems sturdy and comfortable. My 15 month-old has been asleep in it for over an hour this morning. She hadn't slept that long in her Graco seat since she was around 6 months old.

We love this seat!

2.0 out of 5 stars KeyFit-30 Seatpad Poor Quality, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
Purchased a KeyFit-30 in Atmosphere for my son on 07/28/08 and used it for about one-week...

The seat emits strong foam/fabric fumes for the first week. Outside of short vehicle trips, the seat stays in the patio so the odor can be "aired-out".

Interested in finding the source of the fumes, I remove the canopy & seatpad from the seat core. To my surprise, there is ~4-inch tear with exposed holofil on the reverse-side of the seatpad (near the baby's "bottom").

Emailed Chicco customer service two-weeks ago... No signs of the replacement seatpad yet.

The Chicco KeyFit-30 is simple to install in the SUV. The lock & unlock of the seat from its base is positive and natural (ergonomic-wise). The seat straps are easy-to-use (once you read the instructions & practice a few times). The seat works well with the BumbleRide Indie. These are attributes to the seat's excellent engineering.

The smelly foam & easily-ripped fabric denotes poor quality control & inadequate quality assurance at the manufacture locale (China).

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, easy to install, perfect fit for baby, January 3, 2008
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
My son loves this car seat. The newborn padding provides a comforting space for him to enjoy the ride. I was skeptical about the denim color, but it looks better in person. We easily installed this in our car. Buy an extra base if you plan to use it in multiple vehicles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wish it was softer, September 22, 2008

I ordered this car seat because it was rated by Consumer Digest as the safest. It is definately easy to use. My only complaint is that the material is not soft. It's kind of has a vinyl feel to it.

This is a nice car seat -- easy to install initially and easy to take the seat in and out of the base. The straps are also all very simple to adjust and attach and detach. It was rated very well in Consumer Reports because of this -- not because it is safest, but because it is easiest to use. They do not address safety ratings per se.

My only complaint (and I don't have much to compare against I must admit) is that it is fairly heavy to carry around. It is very cumbersome to carry at your side (arm extended, seat by your knees) -- but carries OK if you hold the handle on the side and hold the seat against your chest. This is especially true when navigating tight spaces or walking up stairs.

It is also large enough that it makes it near impossible to sit in the front seat when the chair is installed in my mid-sized car (Subaru WRX wagon). This is pretty inconvenient, but I don't know that another infant seat would be any better.

Oh, and just to nit-pick, the shade canopy isn't really big enough to fully shade the child, and it also gets in the way of the handle a bit when pushed back to stow it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great carseat, July 23, 2008
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
This is a great carseat - we love it. Easy to install, easy to snap in and out of the base, easy to strap the baby in, easy to clean, nice neutral colors. Doesn't really fit in the shopping cart, but I don't feel like the ones that do are safe there anyway.

One thing I don't see a use for, now that we have it, is the 30lb weight limit. We bought this carseat for our 2nd child (had a convertible for our 1st - no infant seat like this) and our 1st child, who is nearly 2 1/2 isn't 30 lbs yets and there's no way she'd still fit in this seat. I guess maybe if you've got a good robust baby it might come in handy, but otherwise...

Good value for a well-made product!

5.0 out of 5 stars #1 Carseat on the Market, March 25, 2009
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
We recently purchased the Chicco Keyfit 30 after doing much research for our third child. I am a certified car seat technician and have installed a ton of infant carriers and bases. A consistent problem that I see is that most kids these days out grow their infant carrier well before they turn 1 year of age and 20 lbs, thus the parents have to resort to a bulky convertible car seat. This car seat gives you the flexibility to have your child stay in the infant carrier until they are 30lbs or out grow the seat due to their length. This is by far the easiest base that I have ever installed. I installed the base in one vehicle using a seatbelt and the 2nd base in the other vehicle using LATCH. Both installations took less than five minutes, this base makes it so easy. I would definitely recommend this car seat and base. You definitely get what you pay for; this is the best investment in infant carriers and bases. It also makes it convenient that it can be used with the Chicco Stroller. No matter what type of car seat you choose, always have a certified car seat technician assist you with the installation. Over 90% of car seat installations have a misuse or improper installation. This is a great infant carrier and base. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent car seat - highly recommended, February 5, 2009

Debbie (Alabama USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chicco KeyFit 30 Infant Car Seat - Atmosphere (Baby Product)
I purchased two of these for my granddaughters, who are now over 1 year old. They have been one of the best baby purchases I have ever made. I really wish I had had these for my own children. They are heavy (carrying twins in these at the same time is quite a muscle-builder and eliminates the need to go to a gym for a workout), but they are so convenient for placing children in and out of cars. You will want to add some additional sun protection since the sunshades are inadequate, but that's a small quibble. You will want to add an insert pad for small newborns or premies, but that's the case with every seat I've ever seen that holds larger children as well. They are easy to adjust; we have to do it all the time, because the two girls are somewhat different sizes, and we don't use a particular seat for a certain child. It's very nice that you can use the seat for up to 30 lbs.; many seats that are sold are not for children this heavy. It has high safety ratings. It is easy to unsnap the straps to remove the child. The handle conveniently folds back out of the way when you need to place the child in or out of the seat. If they fall asleep in the car, just remove the seat and carry the whole thing inside; you don't have to disturb the sleeping baby. Super convenient. At over a year of age, the girls still easily fit into the seats. I anticipate several more months of use at least. We bought extra bases so that we can use the seats in our car and our daughter doesn't have to remove the bases from their vehicle. I am also planning to purchase one of these for my daughter-in-law, who is expecting in the near future, so I'm a repeat customer. Highly recommended.
