5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLANT TOY
This remote car is the BEST. I will buy it for every kid I know and will recommend it to every one I know. I actually bought it for my little deaf dog. I'm sick and can't get around good and he's deaf. I can sit in my chair and run the car around the coffee table and my little dog barks and chases it. The car runs GREAT on carpet and has a lot of get up and go. Can't go...

1.0 out of 5 stars Does Not Work
You have to be within about 1 foot from the toy for it to move. So you can imagine if the car moves, you have to move with it. So the car has no value to us since it's remote feature doesn't work. The car also moves sluggishly. The car doesn't move well on any surface type. I actually bought this car for my kid based on the rave reviews listed here. But it seems to...

But it seems to actually share the same problems that other similar remote based toy cars have (based on reviews).

I give it a FIVE STAR ACROSS THE BOARD.

5.0 out of 5 stars super-fun r/c for tots!, May 13, 2011

I was looking for a simple, easy-to-control r/c car for my toddler, who was 21 months when I ordered the Chicco Johnny Coupe here on amazon.com. I am happy to say that the Johnny Coupe was an excellent choice!

The good:
- First of all, it's cute. The bright red color and happy, smiling face are very appealing for toddlers/preschoolers and parents alike.
- The size is just right - not too big for my toddler to pick up and cart around if that's what he's in the mood to do, but not so small that it gets lost among his other toy cars. The remote is chunky and easy for little hands to hang onto.
- The buttons are simple - one each for forward, reverse, left and right. At the moment, my little guy is still moving the car around at random and seems delighted that pressing a different button causes the car to move a different way, but he'll eventually grow into an understanding of the directions.
- The car is surprisingly powerful - when it bumps into a small obstruction (such as another toy) or a bump on the floor (like where the rug sits on top of the hardwood flooring), Johnny Coupe motors right along instead of getting easily stuck, which keeps my little guy from getting frustrated.
- Perhaps best of all, it's QUIET. Parents of young children know just how obnoxiously noisy kids' toys can be. It's not silent - the car does make a bit of noise as it moves about - but there are no loud tire squeals, no awful fake engine sounds... just the natural-sounding zoom of a small mechanical toy zipping about.
- Of course, what's most important is that my little guy LOVES it. Johnny Coupe has zoomed around our entire home many times in the last few months, and my son shows no sign of getting tired of this particular toy.

The only drawback:
- Batteries. You need some for the car itself as well as for the remote. With all the use Johnny Coupe gets around here, battery life is pretty short. Keep a stock of AA's and AAA's handy - if this car's as popular in your home as it is in mine, you'll need 'em.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great fun but runs out of batteries fast!, December 13, 2011

The car runs great and my toddlers love it, but be careful! You have to keep the toy turned off, something that's very difficult to remember to do, or the 4 AA batteries run out sooooo fast. The toy is too expensive when you're constantly having to buy batteries for it. Besides the battery problem though, it's a good first remote controlled car.

WE love this car. By we I mean the entire family. My son is a little nervous around it but I'm sure he'll out grow that. The controls are easy to use and the remote fits into the car so no need to look around for it when it's play time. The battery life isn't great (my son got this on March 18th and we've already changed the batteries April 2nd). It has an on and off switch and can be used as a push toy. My son loves to push it down his slide and thus far he hasn't broken it (we have carpet). Good overall purchase!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great early RC car... but could be constructed better, February 3, 2010

This is a great idea for a RC car - easy to understand left/right and back/forth buttons for my 3 year old. When it works, it's great! But the batteries have never quite fit just right in the controller... after a couple of turns, the batteries become slightly dislodged and we have to bang it on our hand to get it working again. We tried wedging a piece of thick paper, which didn't seem to work as the battery cover is only secured on one end. Not sure if it's just a flaw in only ours, but beware...

I bought this remote control car for my 4 year old daughter. She had been asking for a rc car for awhile. This is a great little car. It is cute, durable and easy to use for beginners. It turns easily and the headlights light up in forward and the brake lights light up in reverse. The nicest feature for me as a mom is that the control stores right in the car. It makes for great storage and we don't have to hunt for lost controls. A great buy...well worth the money...and a lot of fun.

After playing with this toy for about 20 minutes i learned it has a range of about 5 feet and the remote must be in direct visual contact with the car. If you have any wireless devices in your home(who doesn't these days?) they will overpower the radio in the car/remote and render it useless until you move it out of the wireless field. Sometimes it just stops for no good reason. It does go well on the carpet and better on hard surfaces.... it has some trouble turning at times and is IMPOSSIBLE to align so it goes straight. It feels cheap and probally will be broken by the end of the year(it's the day after christmas) and will need returned.... maybe i'll buy a tyco.

This was bought for our 2 year old son and it only lasted for 2 weeks. He dropped the remote and it hasn't worked correctly since. When it was working, I noticed you had to be close to it in order for the remote to work. It also did not travel well over our area rug. For the age group it is intended for, it should be more durable!

I purchased this car for my three year old. He had it less than a week and dropped it by accident and now it no longer works. Really?!?!?!? You would think that a toy designed for toddlers could handle a little more abuse than that. And as luck would have it the return window ran out yesterday...NICE!!! Even when it was working I wasn't impressed...the remote has very little range at all. My son had another remote control car bought for him as a gift for his first birthdat and he beat the crap out of it for two years before it died...this one lasted less than a week. I am an true amazon fan but this SUCKED!!!
