Editorial Reviews

At the tender age of 26, jazz legend Chick Corea joined with bass prodigy Miroslav Vitous and drum genius Roy Haynes in recording an album so fresh and original that it forever redefined modern jazz. The Now He Sings, Now He Sobs Trio album was Corea's career breakthrough album. His fellow band members also took their places in the jazz firmament. Vitous became one of the founding members of the jazz "supergroup" Weather Report, and Haynes provided the distinctive rhythms for the music of such renowned artists as Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie. With a passion for musical adventure as strong as ever, the trio reunites for the first time in many years at New York City's famed Blue Note jazz club as part of a GRAMMY-winning musical retrospective of Corea's four-decade career, recorded in High-Definition Video and CD-quality sound. TRACK LISTING: HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN (IRVING BERLIN) RHYTHM A NING (THELONIOUS MONK) / BUT BEAUTIFUL (JOHNNY BURKE & JIMMY VAN HEUSEN) MATRIX (CHICK COREA) / STRAIGHT NO CHASER (THELONIOUS MONK)

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable playing and continuity December 10, 2010
Format:DVD
The whole set is well worth the money and highly recommended. This is some of the best playing in my collection. The group continuity is amazing and the soloing is virtuosic and inspired as expected. This DVD along with the "Three Quartets Band" recording in the box set I just couldn't stop watching/listening... but they are all good so buy the whole set.

Chick's skill are [if I didn't see it myself] just unbelievable. True effortless mastery.

3.0 out of 5 stars short March 9, 2008

Format:DVD
for me it's a little bit short, only 5 tunes, the didn't practice for that as you'll see on the endings.i missed more extra things on the menu of the dvd, maybe interviews, or a little bit of the history of them, or whatever, there's nothing
anyway it's always great to see these guys playing because it's always amazing see what they can do.
