Editorial Reviews

Jazz legend Chick Corea was only a teenager when he first fell under the spell of Bud Powell, a jazz piano giant who would greatly influence Corea's music. In the '90s, Corea offered a homage to his teacher and inspiration by forming a multigenerational quintet of players to perform in Powell's groundbreaking style. Celebrating a lifetime of Corea's incredible musical collaborations, the Remembering Bud Powell Band recently reunited at New York City's famed Blue Note jazz club for a very special performance, one of the highlights of a GRAMMY-winning series of historic and unprecedented concerts.

Every now and then one comes across something that causes even the most cynical amongst us to sit up and marvel at the level of beauty and skill humans can achieve. A labor of love from a group of first-rate musicians performing the work of a first-rate composer in a club designed to experience live music up close and personal. A real treat!

5.0 out of 5 stars 50 blissful minutes April 22, 2013

Corea's piano was particularly sharp the evening this was recorded at the Blue Note in New York. Great solos as well from Roy Haynes, Terence Blanchard, and Joshua Redman, with the latter really excelling on "Un Poco Loco." Bud Powell and bop fans in general will eat this up. Short but sweet.
