More About the Author

Erica S. Perl is an award winning children's book author. Her new middle grade novel, Aces Wild, is a companion to When Life Gives You O.J., which was named a Sydney Taylor Notable Book for Older Readers, an Amazon Editors' Best Book of the Month, and a finalist for the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award and the Rhode Island Children's Choice Book Award).

Erica is the author of Dotty (illustrated by Julia Denos), which is perfect for back-to-school and has been called "a charmer" (Kirkus Reviews) and "an unadulterated delight" (Publishers Weekly). She is also the author of Chicken Butt! (now available in plush from Merrymakers!), Chicken Butt's Back!, Ninety-three In My Family and Chicken Bedtime is Really Early.

In addition, Erica is the author of the YA novel, Vintage Veronica. Publishers Weekly calls Vintage Veronica "wonderfully fun." Booklist says Erica "masterfully" creates "earthy and real" emotional lives for her characters, building "a romance that's as complicated as it is sweet," and School Library Journal cheers Veronica as "a much needed character in young adult fiction."

When she is not writing, Erica likes to sing, dance, draw, read, and eat stale red licorice. She is great with animals and kids, but terrible with plants. Seriously - ask any plant.

A boy and his mom go shopping. Mom warns her son that she will put up with no more Chicken Butt jokes. Nevertheless, the boy manages to engage his mom in a conversation that leads her to say "butt" in every sentence, making the boy crack up laughing.

"Stop! No more.

But, Mom, look now.
Look by the cat!

Cat? But...

CAT BUTT!

No, not that! But...

THAT BUTT!

Which? But...

WITCH BUTT!"

Silly kid humor. Which, I sense, kids would love. And want to read over and over.

My girls exclaimed "Chicken Butt's Back! is even funnier and sillier than the first one." They love reading it to each other and taking turns as the boy who tricks his Mom into saying these silly things and the proper Mom who doesn't realize what she is saying. And they love to say Butt over and over again! The illustrations are so imaginative, colorful and eye catching and the words are so clever and creative. Your kids (of all ages) will want to read this book over and over again. Also, a great gift for the silly kids in your life!

"I'll make this crystal clear:
"No more `Chicken Butt!'
"My dear..."

The book Chicken Butt was a big hit, and now Erica Perl hits us with Chicken Butt's Back! The kids loved the first book, and they love this one as well. Like the other it has silly illustrations and very silly text - everything a young reader could want

So, if you want to give your kid a real treat, give this book to him or her - you'll never hear the end of it! (God knows I haven't.)

If you are very young, do not wait more than a second to read this book. If you are old like me, and understand the value of not growing up, this book is the finest of its ilk. It takes a well-known premise ("you know what?" - "what?" - "chicken butt") and runs with it further than you could ever possibly imagine. After the first Perl piece on this (to which this is a sequel) I thought there could be no further to go, but you just can't see boundaries until they've been broken by a true artisan like Perl.
