5.0 out of 5 stars You're going to love this new madcap take on an old favorite!
Chicken Little was a dumb cluck, even for a chicken and he could get very excited over nothing. One day an "acorn fell from the sky and hit him on the head . . . BONK! EEP!" His eyes bugged out and he plopped right over onto the ground. When he came to his senses, he was all riled up thinking that the sky was falling down. "The sky is falling! The sky is falling...

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not enough
Nothing new here. The pictures have an excitement to them that's nice, but the story is little more than cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars You're going to love this new madcap take on an old favorite!, July 7, 2009

The sky is falling! I must run for my life! And that he did. He grabbed his umbrella to cover his head and ran off willy nilly.

Crash, boom, bang! He ran right into Henny Penny who didn't have the sense of a duck. Chicken Little started yelling again and told her the sky was falling. Next thing you know they were both on the run. "The sky is falling! The sky is falling!" Lucky Ducky, who wasn't really lucky was their next victim. "BONK! ACK!" The crowd was getting bigger and the more they ran the more critters they encountered. Loosey Goosey and Turkey Lurky soon joined the crowd as they all ran for their lives. But wait a minute. Fox wanted to know why all the "little birdies" were "going at such a frantic pace." Hmmmmm. The fox had a nice place for them to rest and he opened his mouth to let them in. Was that going to be the end of the silly little birdies?

This is an adorable take on the old Chicken Little story. The colorful, wide-eyed characters are very appealing and add a lot to this tale of a hysterical race to escape the falling sky. If you are a grandparent who might be a bit hesitant about purchasing an old classic with a new twist, don't worry . . . your little one will love it (and you will too)!

5.0 out of 5 stars hilarious, December 1, 2009
This review is from: Chicken Little (Hardcover)
It's not fair to give a book one star (see other reviewer) just because Amazon didn't ship it, which has nothing to do with the quality of the book, so I feel compelled to chime in here. CHICKEN LITTLE is positively hilarious. Laugh-out-loud funny. Snorty funny. A retelling of the familiar tale, bursting with color, feathers, and read-aloud joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book with vibrant colors, December 15, 2009

We love reading this book to our 4 year old. The sentences are really funny but easy to read. All the pictures of each character are vibrant and exciting with special sound effects added (BOINK! AWK! ONK!) when the chicken bumps into every character. Our son is visually impaired but is able to make out the characters very well and especially loves the Turkey Lurkey colors. He loves this book sooo much that we are now planning to make Chicken Little puppets and act this story out.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific New Spin on an Old Classic!, January 26, 2011
This review is from: Chicken Little (Hardcover)
This modern take on Chicken Little is sure to delight and amuse every reader, children and adults alike! Chicken Little is especially adorable in this edition, and as ditzy as ever. I am tempted to say that the illustrations are the stars here, but the retold tale is just as clever. The illustrations, done in collage style, have colors that are vivid and bright. The illustrations play an equally important role to the text in this book.

The story is written in a humorous and wry style. When Loosey Goosey joins Chicken Little, Henny Penny, and Lucky Ducky on their madcap escapade, the narrator reminds us they still have no plan, but, "honestly, with names like these, is it any wonder?" This is funny stuff! The surprise twist at the end, unique to this retelling, is what makes this a perfect story for a read -aloud. But it is quite a romp, so not before bed or you won't get your little one to sleep!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a four-star book., March 5, 2010
This review is from: Chicken Little (Hardcover)
I gave it an extra star to compensate for the erroneous 1-star review below, which I commented on.

Chicken Little is, of course, a classic fairy tale. This version hews pretty close to the original storyline (the only difference is that the poultry aren't eaten at the end... a disappointment, to be sure, but for some people that's probably a selling point!). The distinction comes in the creative collage-y illustrations, very bright and active and colorful, and the occasional sarcastic comments sprinkled in the text. (Off they're running and the narrator comments that there's "Still no plan" and "Well, with names like these, is it any wonder?")

The ending is a bit disjointed - the fox's sneeze comes out of NOWHERE - but that's all right, the rest of the book makes up for it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon Never Shipped Item, September 16, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

Since Amazon never shipped this item as promised, it makes it difficult to review. This has been one of my major complaints with Amazon lately. You pay for regular shipping because they say it is in stock for immediate shipping and then once you give them credit card, they have all kinds of excuses for not shipping it, yet it still shows it is available for immediate shipment. This is now the third item I have ordered from Amazon that wasn't shipped on time as they advertised. All they want is your money. Service has gone downhill with them and they can no longer be trusted.
