4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for those getting started January 25, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having read a dozen or more books on raising chickens, this one is as good as any and better than many. It covers some topics better than most other books do: Raising chicks, disease identification and prevention, formulas for making your own chicken feed. But it lacks a bit in the topics of the coop and physical requirements of the birds. It covers pretty much all the topics that a novice to chicken raising needs to know. The index makes topics easy to find and get to. This is definitely a good book for those just getting started or thinking about raising chickens.(...)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quick reference book February 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I am a beginner in this, I have 4 hens that I got about 6 months ago.

This book provides good information, almost in the format of Q&As. It contains a surprising amount of information considering the length. However, other references are needed for any depth on an issue.

I would recommend this book for those thinking about starting a backyard flock since this will give a good idea of what is involved. This could also be a quick reference for other novice chicken keepers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic questions answered May 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Informative book for chicken raising novices. Good for basic info; stresses non-chemical options for cleaning. I found the recipes for cleaners and the coop daily checklist most helpful.

I am not actually a beginner and still learned an amazing amount from this book. The question and answer format give rise to the belief that the author had had many questions asked and answered by him. The questions are relevant and the answers highly informative. A keeper.

Format:Kindle Edition
This book is a quick and easy read that provides a nice overview for someone interested in raising chickens for the first time. It offers suggestions on different breeds for egg production and meat. It covers care and maintenance for the birds to keep them healthy. There is a section on common diseases and what to look for and how to treat sick birds. Nice and basic.

Do not buy this "book". Not only is it like 12 chapters that are only a few pages each, apparently no one knows how to proofread before publishing. Read more
