Book Description

May 1, 2007

Open your heart to the magic found at the water's edge . . .

There are many places we can go to enjoy time with friends, to have an action-packed vacation, or to enjoy a little solitude, but none of them have the same ability to soothe our souls as the beach. Perhaps it's the magic portrayed by children building sand castles or the gentle sounds of lapping waves on the shore. Chicken Soup for the Beach Lover's Soul is filled with recollections of special moments that will be appreciated by anyone who has been mesmerized by the spell of the ocean.

Color photos of magnificent beach destinations across the United States , from the quaint, historic surroundings of Cape May , New Jersey , to the sultry scenes of Big Sur , California , capture the magic of America --from sea to shining sea.

This unique compilation conjures up memories of family beach outings, the joy of finding a spectacular seashell, young love discovered on the sand, and mature love rekindled at the seashore. Join us on this journey of beaches far and near and remember the fun and excitement you found there, and be inspired to create new memories.

Sand Prints

They walked along the shore,
arm in arm, hands entwined.
Pressed in warm, wet sand,
their footprints left behind.
It was their special time together,
on the beach at the end of the day.
Enjoying the beautiful sunset,
watching young children play.
Their heads are close together
as they plan their life ahead,
his arm goes around her shoulder
as they decide it's now time to wed.
She raises her face upward,
as if to receive a kiss,
a look of joy in her eyes,
as she dreams of wedded bliss.
He pulls her very close to him,
promising to keep her from harm
to provide a safe haven for her,
where she'd be loved, safe, and warm.
They walk off into that beautiful sunset,
arm in arm, their hands entwined,
as the tide creeps upon the shore,
erasing all those footprints left behind.
Tomorrow they will again return,
their path to trace once more,
leaving more footprints behind
on that sun-drenched gulf shore.

4.0 out of 5 stars By The Sea, By The Sea, By The Beautiful Sea, March 8, 2008

This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Beach Lover's Soul: Memories Made Beside a Bonfire, on the Boardwalk and with Family and Friends (Paperback)
CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE BEACH LOVER'S SOUL is somewhat different than other volumes in the series. It has what fans of the series enjoy about the books: tales written by a variety of writers, some professional, others celebrity, and some amateurs that reflect on life experiences. In the case of this volume, the stories generally stem from family vacations and outings to the shore. Since so many are culled from vacation memories and experiences either as a child or a parent, there are not as many stories that deal with life's challenges and difficulties such as losing a loved one, coping with an illness, or other losses that are often the most moving stories in other volumes. Of course this is a good thing since so many of the stories come from the writer's enjoyable experiences in life. Still, it's not all "Life is a beach" reading either. There are some bittersweet stories in then volume, but overall it is a volume that celebrates life, the relationships we have, the people who matter most, which is what made the series so popular in the first place.

For me, the book has a personal connection. Many of my favorite memories growing up took place when my family visited Cape Cod, still my favorite vacation destination, so as I read many of the stories, I was reminded of similar experiences in my own life. The beaches mentioned may be different: beaches in California, Florida, then Great lakes, Florida, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, etc, but the bonds of love and family seem universal in this book. I now live in a coastal community and while I'm writing this review and looking out the window on a dreary March day, I know that in a short period of time, the streets of my town will be filled with visitors, flocking to the beach, perhaps creating memories that will fill a similar volume in the future.

Perhaps this book will bring you back to another time and place, or inspire you to create similar memories with family and friends. It will certainly be an enjoyable read. It also contains some stunning photographs. There are glossy photographs from some picturesque shorelines in the United States, which along with the stories, can transport person back to a variety of vacation areas and give a good frame of reference while reading. So pick up this book and take a trip to the sea.

2.0 out of 5 stars This book just lacked spice, January 15, 2012
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Beach Lover's Soul: Memories Made Beside a Bonfire, on the Boardwalk and with Family and Friends (Paperback)
I collect Chicken Soup Books. And I confess this book took me forever to get finished. WHY? Because it was almost boring. I would not recommend it for anyone. There are just too many other Chicken Soup Books that I liked better.
