Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

From the guys (Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen) who brought you the book Chicken Soup for the Soul and its various incarnations (i.e., additional revenue streams), Chicken Soup for Little Christian Souls beatifically packages 14 feel-good songs about God, Jesus, and living the good life. While Wes King's "Joy," divine diva Rebecca St. James's "Jesus Loves the Little Children," and Godspell's "Day by Day" are what you'd expect on such a Christian Souls set, there are also some surprises here. The folk-singing giant Bill Staines opens the disc with his resplendent "A Place in the Choir" while traditional folkies Mike and Peggy Seeger do a simple, unvarnished version of "Who Built the Ark? Noah, Noah" that stands in good contrast to the record's more produced cuts--such as the old Ray Stevens hit "Everything Is Beautiful" and Ocean's gospel pop hit "Put Your Hand in the Hand." The parent might wonder why at least one tune from Jesus Christ Superstar wasn't included, but your kids will still thrill to the rich assortment and voices that color this children's sing-along testament to faith, which is bound to earn Canfield and Hansen even more credit in heaven. --Martin Keller

3.0 out of 5 stars Great philosophy, good lyrics, but the actual music?!, December 29, 2002
This review is from: Chicken Soup For Little Christian Souls: Songs To Build Your Christian Faith (Audio CD)
I got this CD for my son for our van, thinking we could learn the songs and sing them together as we run errands, etc. I really like the idea of Christian music for children, and I like the lyrics of the songs. However, I can not stand the country feel of this CD. I am not a fan of country music at all, and this is just a bit too 'twangy' for me. I can't listen to it. I am giving it three stars because the concept is good, but I just wish I would have known the *style* of music before spending money on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting praise and worship for jr. church kids, February 10, 2001
This review is from: Chicken Soup For Little Christian Souls: Songs To Build Your Christian Faith (Audio CD)
We are always looking for motivational songs for our children's groups. Since I also teach instruments, I scrutinize the background compilation and rhythms. Overall, the quality of this collection is the best I have reviewed. The minor shortcomings are far overshadowed by the content, artistry and balance of styles. We are currently using JOY and YES! I CAN DO IT to back up our Jr. Church group in their opening exercises. They love the CD and are trying to find some to purchase for their own. The positive attitude supported by biblical principles is outstanding and we look forward to future offerings from this producer. My husband found ours last April while we were shopping in Delaware - it must have been a brand new release - but I am totally baffled as to why we cannot locate it in Michigan. I suppose we will check the same location when we are there this April.
