At Ease,
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book: 101 Stories of Courage, Support & Love (Chicken Soup for the Soul (Quality Paper)) (Paperback)
There is a major theme that runs through everyones personal story .
No matter what the aspect there is a continual nervous feeling,no matter how brave the individual. This collection is compiled in in such a positive way that all the persons involved with their cancer and circumstances are similar. My cancer too. Reading it at first was difficult but after the first few stories a sense of ease set in and they became meaningful. As a person who generally avoids such books I did not put this one down. My thanks to my friend who turned me on to it. Jeffrey Toplin

A lens called cancer,

This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book: 101 Stories of Courage, Support & Love (Chicken Soup for the Soul (Quality Paper)) (Paperback)
Even if you don't have cancer, you know someone who does. How can you understand them? Help them? Be the friend they need? You can start by reading this book and understanding what life looks like when viewed through the lens called cancer.
And lest you think that the book is full of morose and morbid stories, please know that this book will make you laugh and smile as much as it will make you cry; cancer seems to brings out an extraordinary range of emotions. Understand this disease and understand better the people you love who face this disease. Read the The Cancer Book.

It Takes A Courageous Village,
By Hank Rosenfeld (Santa Monica, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book: 101 Stories of Courage, Support & Love (Chicken Soup for the Soul (Quality Paper)) (Paperback)
I wish I was courageous as the people in this book. I am not. It was hard to read. But it takes more courage to write about it as these folks do. And much more than that, is just to face it straight up. All the while not knowing if the outcome would be in one's favor. That can make for an adventurous tale. And unlike a patient, a reader is rewarded for facing it. Because at the end we will find uplight, or tears.
Any book that makes you laugh and cry is wondrous indeed. But it is the different depths of love that are revealed in this one. Thank you for this worthy book. As the youth say, love ya!

Prepare to be inspired,
By
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book: 101 Stories of Courage, Support & Love (Chicken Soup for the Soul (Quality Paper)) (Paperback)
This is a fantastic collection of inspirational stories. They are not stories as in tales as they are absolutely 100% REAL. Real people from caregivers, parents, sisters, and husbands to survivors fighting the disease, this book will provide inspiration. This book is titled the Cancer Book, but I really think it goes beyond that. We all have difficult times in our life when we wonder what to do or get completely frustrated. Read this book and it will help put perspective on life. Life is short so we all need to make the most of it as this book will prove.

DEEPLY MOVING AND ORIGINAL,

This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: The Cancer Book: 101 Stories of Courage, Support & Love (Chicken Soup for the Soul (Quality Paper)) (Paperback)
This beautiful collection of first-hand experiences covers so many aspects of the devastating and life-changing Cancer journey, that I feel not only moved but educated by having read them. I've been blessed (so far) with not contracting this terrible disease, but have many friends and acquaintances who have battled and won...and battled and lost. I feel closer to them every time I read one of these fantastically original and very personal stories.

I purchased this book as a gift for my mother after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. My mother is a strong woman, and she tried to cover up her fear after she was diagnosed. When I gave her this book, it brought tears to her eyes. After reading for a few days, she told me that the book helped her understand what her treatment would be like and what she could expect in the future. She was so encouraged by the personal testimonies in this book and it helped her confront her fears. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for hope, encouragement, and insight on cancer and how it affects our lives.

As a three-time survivor of cancer, a friend gave me this book. I enjoyed it so much that I passed it on to another friend. Now I needed a new book for a terminal patient since I no longer had a co py. I know he will profit also from reading it.

I purchased this book because I was diagnosed with cancer back in 2007. At the time, I was scared and unsure of what my future would hold. I spent my year of treatments wondering if I would ever make it to college, find a nice guy, get married, and have kids. Before my diagnosis, none of that was important, but once there was a chance that I would never experience those things, they became important. It wasn't until after I had finished my treatments that I learned of this book. What some people don't realize about cancer is that the battle isn't over even if the treatments have stopped. You have to put yourself back into a society that may or may not understand the hardships that you have had to face. Sometimes, like with my cancer, you have a constant reminder that will never disappear. Each time you look into the mirror, you see the scars and the way you body has been forced to change in order to stop that dreaded disease. Then you have to go out every day and watch as other people react to those scars or disfigurements. They want to ask, but they don't. You get the looks of sorrow and/or pity. The looks you don't want to see but can't help but to notice. It was hard for me to ignore those looks, no matter how hard I tried. I was about ready to give up until I saw this book. I did not hesitate to order it and I'm so glad that I got it. Seeing and reading to other people's stories has really helped me with my recovery. I still have problems when it comes to certain things, but I'm much better. This book has many stories that deserve to be heard, shared, and understood. Whether you have had cancer, know someone who has, or not, it is worth the time and money to read it. I just hope it is as helpful to you as it was for me.
