Decent Collection of Stories,
By
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Soul: Thanks Mom: 101 Stories of Gratitude, Love, and Good Times (Paperback)
I recently purchased the Thanks Mom volume of Chicken Soup for the Soul around Mother's Day this year. My mom passed away in a car accident about a month before Mother's Day last year and I thought the book would have some interesting anecdotes about the special bonds between mothers and children. Some of the stories were great, but many like another reviewer said were slower to get to the point. Some were downright dull and some put a lump in my throat. I have read other Chicken Soup for the Soul books and while this one was very good, I think the selection of stories could have been better. I did like one of the later ones where the mom tells her son she had to come to his games because he was there. What a sweet story that put a smile on my face and my heart. More stories like this one would have been much appreciated. A good book nonetheless.

Great gift for any mom or yourself!,

Being the first of five kids, I was not the only child begging for my moms attention. And throughout my teenage years when I would tell her how much I hate her, I now laugh because I don't even go a day without talking to her! Then when I had my own sons and they started needing me, I realized how great it is to be a mom, even when I have to change poopy diapers and clean up vomit! Moms really are important, great, and know everything! Well this Chicken Soup book is adorable. It made me laugh, cry, think about my mom, and appreciate my kids. The book is broken down first into sections including: Following in Her Footsteps, Mom Knows Best, Making Sacrifices, Favorite Moments, Mom to the Rescue, What Goes Around Comes Around, One of a Kind, Gifts of the Heart, and My Mother's Legacy. Each section then has personal stories relating to the topic. I love that I can pick up this book anytime and read a section I am looking for guidance or just need at the time. I have also been randomly picking up the book and reading stories, which is especially easy for a busy mom since they are only a few pages long. Some of the stories are exactly what I needed to make myself feel better and laugh. This book would make a great Mother's Day present or just a present for any special mom in your life!

After picking up THANKS MOM and reading an incredible story (that brought me to tears), I bought two copies, one for my mom and one for a friend who is a mother. A great gift book. Chicken Soup does it again -- two stories before bed is the best medicine after a tough day.

Gave this to my mother for Mother's Day. Unlike my dad who loves to read a novel and can knock it out in a couple days, Mom is always moving and likes something that she can read in small periods of time. She loves that she can sit down and read a short story/passage and feel like she has completed something. It was actually delivered before I realized it and I was impressed when she called to thank me for the book and had already had the chance to read some of it and had enjoyed what she read!

Contributor's Gift to Mom,

This is my first contribution as an author to the "Chicken Soup" series of books, and it's an honor and privilege to be included in such a talented pool of writers. My story "China" is a testament to the courage of a remarkable woman -- my mother -- who came to America without knowing the language or culture and succeeded in giving me an opportunity to fashion a life of meaning. These are the kind of tales you'll find in this wonderful collection. As an Asian American, I am drawn to a story by Jeannie Mai, whose mom cherished her daughter's individuality and wouldn't let Jeannie succumb to the peer pressure to just fit in and be normal. Another story by Jennifer Quasha told of how her mom helped her deal with the aftermath of a brutal attack. There's a touching letter from Aviva Drescher to her mother, a woman who gave her daugther the strength to cope with a horrific accident and the spirit to help others who've suffered a similar fate. This book is a fitting tribute to mothers, the bestowers of life. -- Ray M. Wong

This has to be my favorite Chicken Soup for the Soul book in a while. Yes, yes...I know I say that often. But "Thanks Mom" is a wonderful tribute to all moms do and everything moms are. Whether you are a first time mom or a great-great grandmother you will be able to relate to the wonderful, humorous, insightful, loving, thought provoking and funny stories within this book.I love my mom...she is a very special person in my life. Whether we agree on everything all the time is definitely debatable but I always know there is someone that I can depend on. Someone that would do anything for me. It's a special, unique bond that we share with our mothers. I see it developing between the twins and I. As a mom...I cried and was touched by so many of the stories. I could completely understand the sentiment and emotion behind many of the tales. As a daughter there were a few stories that were very enlightening ot me. Maybe situations where my twins and I have not yet traveled but one in which I have traveled with my own mother. Thanks Mom is a perfect gift to give to you mom, mother in law or someone who is special to you this Mother's day. Make sure you have tissue near by because you will have tears in your eyes. It might be because some of the stories are so touching and it might be because some of the stories will leave you in stitches. Either way....keep the Kleenex handy. This will be one of the Chicken Soup books that will remain on my book shelves....ready for me to read again and again. Love it!

I am use to Chicken Soup books to be exciting and uplifting. This book is a little slow and its hard to hold your interest. I have read many, many Chicken Soup stories but a little more excitement should be in these stories. It is kinda boring and long. The stories takes time to get to the point.Cuddles |
