3.0 out of 5 stars Good for girls
I got this book for my 13yr old son who is an avid reader and really enjoys the Chicken Soup books. However, he was not excited about this one. He said the stories mostly applied to girls so it was hard for him to connect with it. It seemed to have more of a "study format" (like the ladies bible studies I participate in or devotionals with questions).

Well, I don't know what the other reviewer was reading, but this was the best collection of stories in a Chicken Soup book yet. All of these stories are written by teens, and they talk about some of the grittiest stuff I've ever read. I mean, imagine being kidnapped by your own mother, or helping your friend through a suicidal breakdown. It doesn't get any more real than that. It's just great to know that there are other teens experiencing the same kinds of craziness I see every day. I take this book with me everywhere. I like the quizzes and other stuff too when I need a break from reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Guidebook for Challenges, December 19, 2008
This review is from: Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal Challenges: Stories about Disses, Losses, Messes, Stresses & More (Chicken Soup for the Soul) (Paperback)
In life there are twists and turns that you might not understand. Have you ever wondered weather or not somebody is going down the same road as you? One of the best books to understand the road of life is Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: Challenges. This book, about teenage problems is more of a guidebook to get through teenage years. Chicken Soup can help you understand that twisty road ahead.

Chicken Soup for the teenage soul focuses on the big challenges in the lives of kids these days. Chicken Soup also focuses on how you could cope with these problems if you had to face them. The book does this with the use graphics, facts, quizzes, and boxes within the text that relate back to the real world. Chicken Soup uses these methods to describe the bog problems like family, friends, relationships, and loss. For example, Jeremy, (age 15) just lost his father and in his story he talks about the saying, "No day but today" where he believes that you should cherish each day. My favorite story in this book is one that I can relate to the most is the story of Jacob (age 14). Jacob describes losing his grandfather, "Heart-stopping," he thought that it would never happen even if his grandfather was old. I can relate to this story because recently I had a grandfather pass away and I know what he is going through.

This books genre is non-fiction even though some of the stories you cant believe. The audience of this book can be found in the different kinds of stories that are found. Some of the stories are centered to teenagers but some of the stories can relate to even adults.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is unlike any other book that I have read. It is in some ways that it is about challenges of most teenagers in America. This is very much like the book "HOOT," in that in HOOT the main character is bullied, has many problems with his dad and his job, and he also has trouble adapting to his new environment. This adaptation of teenagers can be found in the family section of chicken Soup where when families move they bring with them many customs that may not fit in with the norm of their new home. This is what Chicken Soup focuses on, kids and how they adapt to certain situations.

The greatest part of chicken Soup is how the graphics and tables remind you and help you cope with something that you might not know how to handle. For esample, the authors use rhetorical questions to keep the reader thinking about his or her own life and if you are doing the right thing. Another strength that Chicken Soup has is its ability to draw the reader in by using strait forward answers directed at the audience them. They do this by using words suck as, like, basically, and other words relating to the readers "language." The third quality of Chicken Soup is that the paragraphs and t he book is well organized. The author uses this by creating check points and quizzes where you can check yourself on how you are doing with your decisions in life.

All in all Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is a great book if you like to see how you can cope with your problems. Find out how you can find the way through the twisty road ahead.

Like I've said I really like Chicken Soup Books.I love the storys. So when this book came out I could'nt wait to read it.

Yet this book was a real dissapiontment.Their were'nt enough stories. There was to much commentary by the author, little tidbits and addons. The only story I can say I liked was Chain Reaction. It's a story about not judging people to quickly.Other than that nothing esle.
