5.0 out of 5 stars The best Brazilian poet of all times, January 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chico Canta (Calabar) (Audio CD)
Chico Buarque is the best brazilian poet and composer of all times. "Chicocanta" (in English: "Chico sings") is the soundtrack of a play called "Calabar", written by Chico. The play was censored and Chico had to change some of the lyrics in the album. This album represents the resistance of brazilian musicians against the ditactorial government that took place in my country in the 60's - 70's. It's a classic for brazilians and everybody who's eventually interested in brazilian popular music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece, May 21, 2005
By
This review is from: Chico Canta (Calabar) (Audio CD)
Struggling with the then reigning censorship in Brazil,Chico managed to release a true gem in this album.Featuring classics that would be covered by other singers(NEY MATOGROSSO,MARIA BETHANIA) such as BARBARA,TATUAGEM and TIRA AS MAOS DE MIM ,this work best personifies what many have called the ALMA FEMININA of Buarque.CALA A BOCA,BARBARA tells of a woman that think of her man as a warrior in the mattreses of soil while NÂO EXISTE PECADO plays at doing away with the many sexual taboos of Latin American society
