I bought ten of these, October 12, 2009
This review is from: Chiefmax 450W Power Supply with SATA Connector (Personal Computers)
I bought ten of these a few years ago. I was told when I bought them by the guy who recommended them to me that they were cheap and some failed from the start, but the price was the lowest possible. He was honest. I didn't have any fail right away, but have had three have noisy fans and one fail completely. They can get you by and were good enough, barely. I was replacing the power supplies in dell optiplex 260's. I had to cut the Dell's case to get them to fit. (Dell uses a non standard format. The Dell's power supplies had a similar quality to these. The Dell's never got noisy, they just failed. These worked better, but they main fan on them got really noisy on a high percentage. Good enough for a low end PC but it will probably require replacing in a couple of years or less.

Cheap, but thats what it is..., May 4, 2009
This review is from: Chiefmax 450W Power Supply with SATA Connector (Personal Computers)
I bought my chiefmax 450watt PSU at a local store, the vendor declared that he had sold many of them and never had any problems with them; what a liar. Anyhow when I got home from the store I googled the item and what I found scared me, many many reviews claiming to the low quality of the product. Stories including explosions and such. Anyhow, I had already purchased the item. I installed it in my system, and it seemed to work fine, I was scared to leav it on at night and when away for fear that it would start a fire nonetheless, because that's the sort of stuff I read about. Anyhow, it lasted about 4 months without problems, seemed to get hot, but was fine.I gained confidence in it, then one day it quit working, I opened it up and found that the switch had melted, I simply re routed the input to bypass the switch and I was back to work. About a month later, I smelled a burnt smell followed it into my office and knew what it was instantly. This product is cheap, but it is also cheap quality. Spend an extra 20-30 dollars and buy something that will last more than a few months.
