Best of the best,
By
This review is from: Chieftains 5 (Audio CD)
Over the years the Chieftains have made a great many albums and the earliest in my opinion are the best. Of the earliest, 5 followed by 4 are superb. The highlights are many, they were in top form and hadn't discovered "concept" and "guest" albums yet. This is music of sublime beauty that repays repeated listening, give it a go, if you can find a copy! Why it has been allowed to drop out of print defies sense, whoever has the rights, get off your whatever and make it available again.

This was the first Chieftains album I ever bought. After getting hooked on my Irish heritage with the Clancy Brothers, this was a whole new world of Irish music. This is the REAL stuff! I love everything this group has ever done, but one never forgets one's first love. By their 5th album, Paddy Maloney and his band of merry men had perfected their style, working together in a relaxed way that true familiarity brings. This should be in the collection of everyone who loves not only Irish music, but music in general.

The Best!,

I agree with the first reviewer. I think that "The Chieftains 5" was the apex of their performance of traditional Irish music. And I would rank "The Cheiftains 4" as their penultimate performance. I haven't cared for the more commercial cooperations with other artists.
The Chieftains are TERRIFIC!
