I loved this book! It deserves each one of its Five Stars! The intriguing story of Paco, a brave Chihuahua, and his attempts to impress Natasha, that fine silky Afghan Hound, is a tale to be read aloud! To other children or merely aloud to oneself.

That this is a story about various talking animals and their human-sized adventures makes this tale even more engrossing.

The simple story of the eternal quest is filled with exquisite vignettes - vivid scenes coupled with evocative language - that capture the imagination with each turn of the page. The tale is told with charm, wit and intelligence. The reader (as well as the listener) will experience suspense, humor, adventure, accomplishment and, well, what do you know, understanding and growth!

All of the characters are charming and, dare I say, believable. I know - this is a children's story. Our pets don't talk. Or do they? The characters in this story are well-defined. The narrative and dialogue are cleanly written. You will be encouraging each character to do this or that. You will cheer some and "tsk-tsk" others.

Read the book out loud. Have everyone practice their yowls of a werewolf or their "yip, yippity yip yip, bark bark!" You'll see! You'll be engrossed by the story and thoroughly enjoy the culmination of Paco's journey and his new-found wisdom.

A lovely little book! Spectacular illustrations accompany the text to illuminate and elucidate! Totally charming! A winner! You will laugh, smile and smirk all along the way! Enjoy!

Today's review is on Chihuawolf by Charlee Ganny

Chihuawolf is Ganny's first book written for today's younger audience with an affinity for Werewolves. An exceptionally well written story of the underdog finding his true self.

Paco is just a tiny short-haired dog with protruding eyes who has a major case of big dog envy. In order to win the love of the graceful Afghan Hound Natasha, Paco sets out on a mission to become a Werewolf.

With the help of B-Boy; the energetic Jack Russel, Paco goes to Mount Diablo with his best friend Coco the Labrador Retriever to find the Werewolf and drink rain water from one of its paw prints. After all, B-Boy found this method on the internet therefore it must be true.

When they find the Werewolf Paco decidedly changes his mind. The Werewolf isn't exactly what Paco had imagined. Ugly, dirty, and mean, the Werewolf follows Paco and Coco down the mountain and into their neighborhood. Along the way Coco gets injured making her unable to help when Natasha is dognapped.

Paco will need the help of all of his other friends to rescue Natasha and thwart the nasty Werewolf.

It is no surprise to me that Chiuawolf is so good. I have read other books by Ms. Ganny under her different pseudonym's Savannah Russe and Lucy Finn and all were excellent.

It helps if you are a "dog person" (which I am), but this is a sweet story of love and loyalty that will appeal to all ages. (Some days I am fifty-something going on twelve!) Ganny gets inside of her canine characters' heads and makes the readers believe that our dogs are really talking about us with their friends. I love the way she points up the differences in character and temperament between the breeds; the Afghan hound is vain but sweet, the Chocolate Lab is true blue, and the Chihuahua has an exaggerated self-image...while the Jack Russell terrier could use some Ritalin! Everyone works together in the face of danger, and the synergy that they create is sufficient to save the day. A rollicking good TAIL!

A good suspensful story combines with positive life messages for children in this delightful tale. Focusing on Paco the Chihuahua and his 3 dog friends, it combines just the right amount of safe scariness with a dogone good story about a WereWOOF! Kids will love this book (and boys included...they love werewolves).
