Have I Chosen the Best Ginsu Set for Me?

The Ginsu brand encompasses three distinct series of knives - something to fit every chef and kitchen! Look at the photos to the left. You have chosen a Chikara Series set, which is great for a chef who enjoys superior performance and doesn't mind the additional maintenance of sharpening blades. The Koden Series is great for a chef who wants high quality and style without the required maintenance of sharpening. The Essential Series is great for the more value-conscious chef, and still features Ginsu's famous dual-serrated blades and Always Sharp promise.

The Ginsu Story

Known for decades as a maker of very sharp knives, Ginsu got its start as one of the first items to gain popularity by selling via infomercial in the 1970s. "But wait, there's more!" The Ginsu brand has evolved to create incredibly sharp, technologically superior cutlery with the highest quality standards. Ginsu draws from the ancient Japanese methods of Samurai sword smiths to produce the same level of precision and craftsmanship in our contemporary knives. The Always Sharp blades and beautifully shaped, ergonomic handles have gained respect from generations of consumers, making Ginsu one of the most well-known names in cutlery.

Reinventing Tradition
  • Since the 1920s, the makers of Chikara cutlery have produced expertly crafted and precision ground knives.
  • Utilizing the highest quality materials and craftsmanship, Chikara provides superior knives at an excellent value
  • Using age-old methods alongside modern technology, every knife features a comfortable, traditional feel while retaining the durability and sharpness offered through modern day processes and materials.
  • By embracing heritage and modern advancements, Chikara cutlery is able to provide technologically superior knives with the comfort of years past while successfully making each and every knife "the best of both worlds"

I also own a Zwilling Pure 4 Piece Steak Knife Set and bought these so I would have 8 steak knives as I couldn't afford 8 of the zwilling. These are one of the few steak knives I've found that are forged(not stamped) and straight edged(not serrated) that are in an affordable price range. Comparing them to the german knives, these cut just as well and have just as high quality construction. The main difference I see is the zwilling knives are a much more silvery color and these knives are a dull gray. Maybe this means they will rust easier if not well cared for. I always hand wash, completely dry, and place the knives back into the block when done with them and have not had any significant staining. All in all, an excellent knife for a low price.

These knives hold a sharp edge and are good looking. They are well balanced and comfortable to use. One of the best knife deals I have ever made. I bought two sets and am completely pleased.

Very sharp, non-serated knives. Comfortable grip with a nice weight to the knife (not too heavy and not too light). Easy to wash - no grooves or crevices for stuff to get caught in.

I always hand wash and hand dry, because I read that is what you should do. I like them better than my Racheal Ray's (don't tell her).

Sharp , high quality, forged. So how come they cost alot less? yes, they are slightly lighter weight than the best german forged and are made in china not japan. But dont let that scare you, i used the first set for a few weeks and then went ahead and ordered two more. two thumbs up.

I bought a Ginsu 12 piece cutlery set, and loved the 4 steak knives it came with. So, I bought 4 more for company. If I have more than 8, sorry, you guys have to use the Henckles...

These are so sharp I find myself using them for everything from cutting steak to peeling fruit. They look great, are easy to clean, and they just feel right in my hand. They keep an edge well too. If these go with your style, you're sure to love them.

I fell victim to the Ginsu knives back in the 90s, so I was pretty skeptical these would be half-way decent. Those old Ginsu blades had that horrible serrated blade that always cut at weird angles. NOT THESE. Single fixed edge Japanese steel.

So why are these the best steak knives ever? First of all, the blade is amazing. That crazy sharp thin Japanese steel slices through steaks beautifully. It's so much better than those big heavy clumsy serrated knives they use at steak house restaurants. Those knives tear apart the meat by sawing through it. Leaving you with ripped up chunks of meat. The thinness of the Ginsu single blade melts through the meat, giving it a clean smooth cut. Extremely accurate and did I say sharp yet? Sharp. Keep your fingers out of the way. Now, the weight of the blade might throw you off at first. You pick it up, and realize it's much lighter than you'd expect from a steak knife. But the weight is shifted heavily toward the handle, leaving the balance a bit askew. Which is a good thing, because it creates a leverage on the flexible, thin blade that gives you a more accurate easy cut. The handle is also rubberized too, which makes it easy to grip and sits great in your hand. Just really a superb knife. So much better than what I was expecting.

Great knife. You'll be a ninja. Stop debating. Get the knife.

What a huge improvement from my old knives! They cut great. I wasn't sure if I'd like the handle when looking at the shape in the picture but I really do. Great quality. Would highly recommend them!
