5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic of Comedy -- Still Funny, Still Relevant, June 25, 2000
This review is from: Child of the 50's (Audio CD)
How can you tell a comedy album is a classic? Not to mention still relevant? Because although it came out in 1973, today's comedians are _still_ stealing jokes from it. <g>

I only recently started buying Robert Klein albums. Now, I could kick myself for missing out on all that great comedy. This is one of his best -- though I can't decide between this one and the more recent "Let's Not Make Love." Oh, and "New Teeth."

Robert Klein was the first comedian to appear in his own live HBO special. This album will show you why they picked him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Plain Standup, December 6, 2002

If you like standup comedy, but not as dirty as kinison yet not as "weird" as Steven Wright, this album is a must have- it's just Good plain smart and entertaining obsorvational humor... Robert Klein is a master at his field, and I own over 200(!) comedy albums of all genres, so I think you should take my word for it...

5.0 out of 5 stars Still funny after all these years., June 14, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Child of the 50's (Audio CD)
I orginally purchased this CD as a vinyl album (remember those?). It is aging better than Klein's next album, "Mind Over Matter" & is relevant to those of us who were kids in the 50's. Robert Klein is as old as or a bit older than the oldest "boomers". We can still remember (feeble though our minds may be) the old spinster teachers, civil defense drills, and the sex impluse that Johnny Mathis songs could incite. It was a foolish, absurd, sometimes scary time. Robert Klein also makes it very funny.

This CD is a must buy for anyone, especially those not familiar with the wonderful comedy of Robert Klein, who Seinfeld called "The Godfather of the modern comedic style." Get it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Klein At His Peak, July 1, 2006
This review is from: Child of the 50's (Audio CD)
I originally had this recording on an LP but had lost it in a move a long time ago. When I rediscovered it on Amazon, I was thrilled.
This is CLASSIC ROBERT KLEIN at his peak performance! His choice of topics, as indicated on the CD's title, are by no means exclusive to that generation. Anyone can appreciate his riffs on tourism, substitute teaching, commercials and more!
If you're a fan of great stand-up, then you must have this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Klein!, August 27, 2006
This review is from: Child of the 50's (Audio CD)
A hilarious album by one of the great underated stand-up comedians of our day, captured in his prime. Contains riffs on school, sex, FM radio, civil defense, and much more. A real treat.

I am currently reading Bob Klein's autobiography *the Amorous Busboy of Decatur Avenue: A Child of the Fifties Looks Back* (ABB) during the course of which I decided to pick up this CD. The *Child* CD brings back memories of under-your-desk-diving Civil Defense drills of the 1950's and other not-quite-Kodak moments of our lives. The 20 years after book, like the man, is a more developed and seasoned fruition. You could just skip this unformed and abridged *Child* Klein and proceed directly to ABB on CD, but then you would miss the groovy Akroydian looking young Klein on the case cover.

The routines on this *Child* CD were compiled in 1973 - long before Klein-as-Big Al started selling stuff on the TV sudser *Sisters.* If the Powers That Release are reading this, wouldya please release *Sisters* on DVD?! /TundraVision, Amazon Reviewer

5.0 out of 5 stars Robert Klein review, December 26, 1999

Child of the 50's was a favorite of mine way back in the 80's. I had it on vinyl and have wanted it on CD for quite awhile. Amazon.com gives me the opportunity to enjoy one of his best shticks. I wish he would come out with more routines and tour. Scott Noren
