Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The first fifteen years of your life, hour after hour, day after day, year after year, you have developed the skills to behave in a specific environment: the family system. And so, if in your everyday family life, you've developed the skills to be unlovable, unhappy, unsuccessful and unworthy, you were abused as a child, and your parents trained you to be depressed, to live in fear, shame or guilt, and perhaps to be self-destructive. This book is a therapeutic guide that will lead you along the road to recovery. Your true personality will emerge with the exercises, and you will be free to fulfill your own destiny the way you want it to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Irresponsible child abuse self help book, October 30, 2007
By Liz (Shreveport, LA) - See all my reviews
The Child Abuse Recovery Work book is one of the most irresponsible self help books I have ever read. As a Clinical Social Worker I am always looking for good workbooks to augment my weekly practice. The Child Abuse Recovery Workbook's author states that he is a therapist yet does not site any licensure or degree to support the claim. He makes the dangerous claim that "only survisors of child abuse can counsel other surivivors", He incites violence by guiding his workbook participants in a visualization of their abusing parent tied and gagged in a chair asking the participant to describe what they would do or say to the parent. The most humourous section is his tirade of why modern mental health pathologizes it's clients. He makes the claim that Freud was sexually repressed siting his lack of participation in orgies as his criteria????? I am not disagreeing with Freud being repressed only find that the author may have more healing to do before he attempts another workbook as his own inbalances are spilling out all over the pages.
The book is poorly written and often restates points over and over again only in slightly different ways. The lay out of the book is poorly executed. There are pages of print only with no headings or photos. If you buy this book burn it! If you throw it out you in the trash you risk someone finding it, reading it and believing it!
