An Intimate Walk to Bethlehem,
By Susan H. Mitchell (Franklin, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Child Is Born: Meditations for Advent and Christmas (Paperback)
I first purchased J. Barrie Shepherd's book, A Child is Born, as a gift for my brother. As it so often happens, I had to buy a second copy because I decided to keep one for myself. Shepherd's style of writing is, as he names it, the prayer diary format. He sets each meditational offering in the framework of quoting a scripture passage, one for each of twenty-eight days of the season of Advent. Then he shares with the reader his very personal walk to the manger and makes alive again the coming of the Baby Jesus into our hearts. You can either read his book straight through, or you can read one Day (Chapter) each day during the liturgical season of Advent/Coming--the Coming of the Christ Child. Walk with him and you'll find your own spiritual life renewed. My only knowledge of this author came from having seen and loved his short poems, published in an ecumenical Christian publication. It was great to find another type of writing that he has published. He encourages the reader to use the empty spaces on some of the pages to jot down your own thoughts and wonderings as you make the journey to Bethlehem.
