The judge cares about evidence, so YOU MUST TOO,
By CustodyIQ "www.CustodyIQ.com" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child Custody A to Z: Winning with Evidence (Paperback)
Too often, parents expect common sense and justice to prevail in a family law courtroom. By the time they learn their lesson, it's too late, and there's no "do over".
This book does an excellent job outlining a few critical areas for parents facing child custody litigation: 1. Not all evidence is relevant or important. It's important to learn what matters. 2. Attorneys are frequently overburdened and won't build your case for you, unless you have a ton of money. It's important for you to lead the process on building your case, with the assistance of your attorney (not the other way around). Then, the attorney can effectively argue your case in court. 3. Judges don't make decisions based upon kharma, common sense conclusions, or on a parent's assurance that she/he is better. Judges make decisions on evidence-based arguments. If you don't master those three areas, your chances of prevailing are drastically reduced. For the area of child custody conflict that deals with building your case-- this book does an excellent job. It's not the "be all, end all" guide for child custody, but it serves a critical area; just as its title implies.

Hard hitting style, packed with practical information,
By
This review is from: Child Custody A to Z: Winning with Evidence (Paperback)
The author pulls no punches in this book. It is hard hitting and packed with practical information. Mr. White writes about a "combat strategy." This perhaps cold, emotionless plan is intended to present the case based on fact, not emotion. Most importantly, a case based on fact and documentation will make sense to the judge. The book also lots of tips on how to "win over" a judge or other people that are key to a successful outcome in your case. If a reader is willing to apply this information, it will position them to win a child custody case, when the evidence supports them.
Guy White also uses numerous real life examples of "how to" and "how not to" handle the many complex situations surrounding estranged spouse relationships as it relates to child custody. These crazy stories are real people and real situations in cases he has handled or become familiar with. Some stories are pretty wild and make for some interesting reading. It is like "Reality TV" in book form. While his writing style takes a little getting use to. I quickly found the abundance of good practical knowledge overcame any criticisms one may have. He writes like a guy would talk to a friend, over a beer, giving it to you straight, without any frills, focused on getting his point across in plain English. I truly appreciate how the author is always reminding readers the importance of keeping focused on what is best for the children, rather than their own agenda, as many parents do. This book is the "The Child Custody Handbook" for parents who truly have their children's best interest in mind. Like any survival handbook, it is a good read that you hope you will never need.

Really the Best One Out There,

This book spells out EXACTLY what you need to know in a custody battle, in a simple, straight-forward style. We got information from this book that even our lawyer didn't tell us. I bought several child custody books, but this is the one we turned to over and over again, and it is now dog-eared and worn. The author doesn't sugar-coat anything, but it's not like some of the doom-and-glooom books that make the situation seem hopeless. I would recommend this book for an informative read when facing a child custody dispute.

A Waste Of Money,
By Phillip Bennett (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child Custody A to Z: Winning with Evidence (Paperback)
This guy loves telling his own war stories and blowing his own horn. Guy, is the only good guy in this book. He writes as though he invented being a detective. The information in this book is limited in scope to primarily Scottsdale, Arizona and is as general as the horoscope in the newspaper.
Things he tells you that won't work: Hire a good attorney. But he doesn't tell you how to do that. He says there aren't many out here, he even sued one. He says they will shake you down and lie to you about your case. Pay your attorney a small retainer. Attorneys, especially good attorneys, don't accept small retainers. Advice like, "stay on top of your attorney, but don't harass them", good trick. Just how are you suppose to do that? By the third unanswered call in 30 days the attorney thinks you are a jerk. Be aggressive, but not too aggressive. What does that mean? Wants you to do that you can't afford... Hire Guy J. White. Have a family attorney there when you hire a child custody attorney. Pay someone to gather medical and financial records. Expensive and probably illegal. There is nothing original in this book. How many times have you seen the phrase, "People don't plan to fail; they fail to plan." well it is in this book also. Don't waste your money.

Too much self-congratulation,

The basic premise of this book is that everyone is incompetent: every lawyer, every judge and even the parents. The only smart person is the author and this tone gets tiresome fast. While there are a few tidbits here, Mr. White mostly brags about winning cases where the facts are on his side (so he won custody away from a woman who left her child alone each night while she partied and had affairs.... well, who wouldn't have won on those facts?).
Asking your lawyer simple questions, like what do we need to prove our case and how can I help, should get you further than this book.

If you want honesty and factual information this is by far one of the best child custody "manuals" out there. Mr. White's candid exposure of the child custody quagmire will provide reader's with the knowledge and insights necessary to win child custody battles.

Add this to your library.,

The content is good but there isn't much of it as evidenced by the 232 page count. All the standard stuff is covered. Gathering evidence is covered pretty well but you will have to go to a book store or library for more indepth material. The information is not flexable and at the same time too generalized for the reader to be able to know how to use it. It tells you what the judge wants but not how to make the unusual situations you face fit into the standard procedure. It is less than twenty bucks, might as well get it.

This book is useless.
I don't know why the positive reviewers have such nice comments for it, because it doesn't deliver at all. Throughout the book, the main focus is the author telling the reader how everybody but him is incompetent. The bulk of the book is him telling incoherent stories of custody cases "he" won where the lawyer didn't know what he was doing. That's fine, if it wasn't for the fact that the author doesn't actually give any practical information on how to actually win a custody case. The mantra, that he keeps repeating over and over again, is this: get evidence. Well duh, of course we need evidence, a little advice on how to actually collect it would have been helpful. But instead of actually outlining what the appropriate ways are to gather evidence, and how to go about doing it, Guy instead focusses on a constant repetitive nagging that comes down to: "I am awesome, cause I collect evidence; everybody else sucks; here's an incoherent anecdotal case to show you how awesome I am and how everybody else sucks". Nowhere in the book is any practical advice given on how a parent should collect evidence, or even on how to pick a good detective that can do it for you. The whole book is basically a big advertising blurb advising you to hire the author to do your work for you. It's terrible, don't buy, you'll be disappointed!

Excellenct Book!,
This review is from: Child Custody A to Z: Winning with Evidence (Paperback)
Expertly written. This is a very informative, play by play book. It outlines the real rules of the "Game". It provides detailed information for family members needing to understand the facts of how a custody case is decided, the players involved and who has the most impact on the case.
Guy White identifies how you should act, think, protect and live your child custody case. Clearly his 20 years experience has positively impacted the live of parents, children and grand parents which were on his side of the case! |
