Disappointment,
By Terry's Treehouse "Terry's Treehouse" (Algood, Tennessee United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Child in Fashion: 1750-1920 (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
I regret having spent good money on this book. I believed it would contain children's fashion styles from 1750-1920 as the title indicates. What it was is two photos of children in pilgrim type clothing and otherwise in early 20th century clothing. Not a worthwhile resource.

Great text not just on clothing, but on the history of childhood. Wonderful photos

decent, but not the best on the subject,
This review is from: The Child in Fashion: 1750-1920 (A Schiffer Book for Collectors) (Paperback)
the subtitle 1750-1920 is misleading. the 18th century examples shown are RECREATIONS not originals. they are very good recreations, but still. This book does not do very well with the early 19th century, getting better in the later part of the century. It seems heavy with the Edwardian period.
If you can only by one book on children's clothing Go with Children's Clothes by Claire Rose or Clothes and the Child by Anne Buck (not the older one with Phillis Cunnington which is good in it's own way) |
