Excellent Read,
By
This review is from: Child Finder (Hardcover)
I just finished reading Child Finder and found it to be a riveting first novel. The first in a trilogy, this book held my attention and toward the end I was really getting concerned that it would not have a break point that would satisfy me, leaving me frustrated waiting for the next volume. However, Mr Angley masterfully wove the story to a point that simultaneously left me satisfied but thoroughly tantalized and waiting for the next volume.
If you want to see an author just beginning his way up, this is an excellent bet.

Captivating! A Must Read!!,

An absolute number one summer read!!This book should come with the WARNING:Once you meet Patrick O'Donnell and his family and travel with him through his suspenseful work you will be captivated! I could not set this one down! An exciting, easy read that was over all too soon....anxiously awaiting Child Finder:Resurrection so I can continue this wonderful escape into a reading pleasure! One can identify easily with the characters even through the government's interwining suspense and intrigue. My advice is pick it up, you won't want to put it down, and most importantly you won't be disappointed...bonus is the opportunity you will now have to be able to participate in the conversations of what everyone will soon be talking about...let the trilogy begin...

Child Finder is a gripping tale that combines the psychic world with the oft-times political world in which law enforcement agencies battle over turf at the expense of innocents. Angley's ability to give the reader a behind the scenes look at what happens behind closed government doors is an eye opener. His character development is superb, from the protagonist to the most obscure bit player. I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller. He had me on the edge of my seat at several junctures, causing me to read on and on. I look forward to the follow-up in the series.

A 5-star debut thriller written by a retired Military Intelligence Officer. Wow!,
By Armchair Interviews (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child Finder (Hardcover)
Child Finder is the first book of a new suspense thriller series featuring Air Force Special Agent Patrick O'Donnell.
Patrick discovers he has a psychic gift as he begins to experience very vivid and sensory detailed dreams about children that are missing. Not wanting to risk his military career he approaches a trusted former commander who is rumored to run a Top Secret program that includes anything in the paranormal realm. Patrick is quickly pulled into the program and proves he can locate these missing children under the right conditions. But Patrick is worried about how the program is affecting his family life and he is also very concerned about some of the government's methods to ensure this program remains a secret. Murderers are being caught-but are innocent people's rights also being violated? I loved this book! A former Military Intelligence Officer, the author's background adds credibility to this fascinating look into covert operations. But just because he knows what he is talking about doesn't mean he can tell a good story or especially write one! Luckily for those of us who love secret undercover organizations, paranormal stories, and great intriguing suspense filled tales, Mike Angley has it all together. Patrick is a remarkable character, honorable, moral, patriotic, and a devoted Catholic. It does not matter what your religious beliefs are, Patrick's conflict between his religious beliefs and his psychic gift makes for a fascinating contrast. You'll but love the character of this dedicated and truly caring man. I would not say this is a "Christian book" as that puts limitations on it that are not really valid. Patrick has a strong belief system but the other character's beliefs do not come into play and obviously some of them are not believers by their actions. This story is in no way preachy. His beliefs are what make up his character and a part of him that cannot and should not be separated out. I can't wait to read the next two books in the series! Armchair Interviews says: This is 5-star read for anyone who loves political suspense, secret government agencies, and uniquely gifted heroes!

Fantastic mystery thriller!!,

Mike Angley used his experience as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (OSI) to create a suspenseful page-turner in Child Finder. Being a criminal investigator, as well as a counterintelligence and counterterrorism specialist, gave him plenty of opportunities to put together characters that keep us guessing as we read. The intriguing aspect, to me, is just how the paranormal adventures came to be part of the plot. What do you believe about people having psychic abilities that could help in investigations?
In Child Finder, the main character, Major Patrick O'Donnell, is also an Air Force Special Agent who is assigned to the Pentagon. He discovers that he has a psychic gift that the government then wants to put to use, first to help find abducted children, but then they take it further, and Major O'Donnell discovers another side of the FBI, as he becomes part of a TOP SECRET black world. Be sure to carve out a chunk of time when you pick up Child Finder because you are not going to want to put the book down. The characters pull you into the story and the mystery keeps you guessing right up to the very end. We all have experiences in our lives but how many of us can turn them into a fantastic read? Mike Angley has done just that. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to see into the "intelligence world" and anyone that loves a great mystery thriller. The good news is...there are two more books to finish out the series and I can't wait to get my hands on them. Mike Angley is a terrific writer and you'll find Child Finder a very well-written mystery.

This review is from: Child Finder (Child Finder Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)
Mr. Angley's debut novel, "Child Finder," is a compelling read, filled with courageous, believable characters. Pat, the lead character, is an agent found to have the gift of clairvoyance. As he learns more about his ability, he is able to use it to the benefit of those in peril. However, as he reaches out to others, others reach back at him for use of his unique abilities for larger, more dangerous tasks. Mr. Angley points out that in the powerful character Pat, the same people affecting his life the most are the same people affecting us in our own lives, namely family and co-workers. As the story continues, not all is that it seems as the characters unfold into their own agendas, making it a page-turner as it reaches its dramatic end. Congratulations to Mr. Angley, and I look forward to reading the rest of this great series!

A rainy day fun read!,
By Joyce Faulkner (Pittsburgh, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Child Finder (Hardcover)
Air Force Major Pat O'Donnell discovers that his vivid, sensual dreams about missing children are more than colorful nightmares. He is a psychic and a synesthete - a person with the rare ability to experience the world through a mixture of sensory impressions. He feels AND smells the earth, he hears and tastes water. When Pat queries law enforcement about the subject of one of his frightening visions, he is suspected of the crime. However, once his innocence is established, a top secret government department tests Pat and discovers the range of his mental uber-abilities. Before long, he is working with this very special unit to bring home lost souls.
Author Mike Angley's first novel is a clever re-telling of a classic good versus evil saga with a twist. Pat O'Donnell is a warm, loving family man--a devout Irish Catholic and Federal Agent who packs a gun and a grin. His patience is short and his ability to suffer fools is almost nil. His relationship with his family, his church, the military and his country is passionate. He radiates goodness. In fact, when a troubled government agent/sexy woman makes a play for Pat, the amused reader immediately realizes that Vicky DeSantis will not live until the end of the book. Such an obvious temptress must not muddy up the life of the clean-living hero. However, the story works on many levels. The plot is carefully thought-out and the characters are three-dimensional and familiar. From the dependable and loyal parish priest to the warm, supportive African American psychologist, Angley surrounds his protagonist with a homey glow. His red-haired wife is as fiery and beautiful as Maureen O'Hara, while his children are well-scrubbed, well-behaved, and well-beloved. There is enough derring-do to satisfy Mission Impossible aficionados while exciting Medium fans and NCIS lubbers at the same time. Child Finder is one of the few general audience thrillers that would also appeal to religious readers and young adults. The lessons are subtle, but the moral choices are clear. Although Angley plays with traditional ideas, his approach is new and original. This novel received the MWSA 2009 Silver Medal for Fiction out of a very crowded field. However, this will not be the last award for this talented new voice. Recommended for warm rainy day reading with a cup of mint green tea and a Snickers Bar. Mike Angley has hit a home run with this debut into a trilogy! I can't wait to read the rest of the story! The way he ended the first book tells me he's got a great ride in store for us in the next two books. Special Agent Patrick O'Donnell is a great character with all of the elements to make it hard to put down. His strong beliefs, love of family, devotion to duty, and conflict while discovering his special ability make for a gripping read and reach into your own psyche to bring those tough decisions into perspective.

My Favorite Book Of 2009!,

I have to hand it to Mike Angley, his talent came through like a shining star. My mother seen "Child Finder" on my desk and she literally told me i could read it after she had finished reading it. She bragged so much on the book and i had to tell her not to tell me what happens.
When reading, i didn't want to stop reading and thought the plot was one of the best ever. The characters were strong and well described, and the suspense was intense. "Child Finder" is good for a 5-star rating and I'd recommend it to anyone. This book is guaranteed not to disappoint! |
