Book Description

039370355X 978-0393703559 May 2002 1

Psychologist and family therapist Marcia Stern presents a playful and creative family-centered treatment for today's kids. She uses a biopsychosocial perspective to provide a framework for intervention not only across several therapeutic domains, but also across home and school environments.

The therapy described here helps the family understand the child's difficulties from multiple perspectives and leads to fresh understandings of often-misunderstood children. Family members work as a team, strategizing and collaborating in a child-friendly, systemically informed treatment. Action-oriented techniques engage the family through right-brain learning, and include visual imagery, metaphor, and imaginative play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Practical Suggestions, September 29, 2008
There are many books on child therapy--but few that I've read do as nice a job giving an overview of the complexities of treating children within a biopyschosocial context. Also, Dr. Stern offers some great concrete practical suggestions about managing the therapy room, orchestrating the therapy process, and engaging the entire family. This book nicely bridges theory and practice and makes a great resource for therapists learning to work with families as a whole.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay textbook, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Child-Friendly Therapy: Biopsychosocial Innovations for Children and Families (Hardcover)
This was required reading for my child/adolescent therapy class. Some good information and techniques, but alot of useless info as well. There are better books out there.
