This review is from: Child of the Ghetto: Coming of Age in Fascist Italy : 1926-1946 : A Memoir (Hardcover)
Child of the Ghetto is a memoir of a young girl growing up in Fascist Italy. The memoir is very balanced providing wonderful details of life in pre-war Italy, the coming Fascist regime and ultimate flight into the countryside to avoid Nazi capture. It tells the story not only of Italian Jews but also of the reactions of the Italians themselves. I am concerned that this book is out of print. It is timely as ever; we cannot forget the menance of acute nationalism and its attendant fascism. History repeats itself.
