I had always loved this movie as a child. I remember watching so intently when ever it was on. I loved Alexander and Blossom. I really loved the Plantation House.

I had been looking for this movie for years. I had heard that it had been released in 1986 on VHS and BETA but I couldn't find one. This year a very dear friend gave me a copy of this that he had converted to...

3.0 out of 5 stars About this DVD release
As noted in the product description, this is a Made-On-Demand DVD-R. Image quality varies from just adequate to poor (some scenes literally look like bootleg VHS!) There is no menu (just a generic "Disney Generations" title page with a single option, "Play"), and the film starts immediately without the "Wonderful World of Disney" opening titles, bumpers, or end credits,...

I had always loved this movie as a child. I remember watching so intently when ever it was on. I loved Alexander and Blossom. I really loved the Plantation House.

I had been looking for this movie for years. I had heard that it had been released in 1986 on VHS and BETA but I couldn't find one. This year a very dear friend gave me a copy of this that he had converted to dVD. And it included a cover art that was a minature version of the origional. Even though it is a fake. I treasure this DVD. So much.

This movie begins showing The Ainsworth family traveling to their new plantaion house. WHen they arive the Kids are pretty shocked at how run down the house is. Well they work on it. And you meet the Drunk Caretaker who has Murder On His Mind. One night Alexander sees a Blue Light from the hay loft of the barn. He goes out there and sees the ghost of Inez. She tells him what help she needs from him. Well Alexanders decides to help him. I don't remember the exact riddle. But it was about the 2 should touch. Well it goes on. And Alexander falls into the well. And he is found. His parents send his little friend Blossom down. And she finds the China Doll. They rescue Alexander and they go into the Cemetery into the Chapel of Inezs Family and place the doll on top of her tomb. Well the gost of Inez apperas and grabs the doll than dies and evaporates into the Tomb. THan the doll appears and falls onto the floor. The head shatters and in side the head is the long lost treasure. WHich consists of millions of dollars worth of diamonds.

Great Movie. Fun for the whole family.

5.0 out of 5 stars We need more movies like this!, September 25, 2002

I think we need more movies like this. The story is just wonderful, and although I saw it only twice in the 80s as a little kid, I've remembered it ever since, and have spent many years looking for it. It was such a nice story, and I wanted to watch it over and over, but alas, I could not. Not many movies today could illicit that sort of constant viewing.

Seeing as they just released 'The Journey of Natty Gann' on DVD, I'm hoping Disney will continue to go through its movie vaults and start rereleasing some of their older movies, like Child of Glass.

5.0 out of 5 stars Child Of Glass, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Child of Glass [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Description From The Box:
"Strange forces are at work here .... Listen to the call of the spirits .. They'll come to you soon..."
It's a warning 13-year-old Alexander Armsworth hears (and ignores) from a mystical old hag when he and his family move into a grand, antebellum Southern mansion. Soon the prophecy comes true, and Alexander is knee-deep in a mystery involving witchcraft, frightening visions from the past, a lost fortune in diamonds, a crazed caretaker with murder on his mind, and visitations by the ghost of a young girl who has been haunting the mansion since her murder during the days of the Civil War!

The other reviews of this movie tell the plot pretty well, but you have to see it to really "get" it. It's one of those that you watch over and over. I've probably seen it 10-15 times! I bought it in VHS (used, the only way I could get it)version, even though I feel sure that Disney will someday wake up and release it as a DVD. I'll buy it then, too! Parents, it's a good movie for kids because it's "spooky" enough to appeal to them, but not really scary since the ghost is a likeable little girl from New Orleans with a lovely French accent. A good movie for the halloween season, too. Naturally, if you analyze it too much, you get to wondering why they didn't just ask Inez where the doll was and why Aunt Vinnie didn't just walk with the kids to the cemetary, since she knew why they were going and believed in it. But that wouldn't be as scary as Amery Timmons chasing them through the cemetary by themselves! Don't over-analyze, just enjoy!

I have thought about this movie often over the yars. I'm 35 now and saw it as a child. I've been hoping it'd be released on DVD for years!! It's a movie that really sticks with you especially if you saw it as a child.

5.0 out of 5 stars Child Of Glass, October 21, 2004

I remember this movie being on TV when I was a child. My Sunday evenings were reserved for "The Wonderful World of Disney". My sister and I have discussed this movie many times over the years (not knowing the title). Recently I've made it my mission to find out what the title was and locate a copy. This movie is eerie and wonderful. Not really scary for children, but it will definately keep them in their seats. I really wish Disney would release this again. It will make any child's day!

5.0 out of 5 stars "FINALY FOUND!" How I would love to get it on DVD., March 18, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Child of Glass [VHS] (VHS Tape)
As a young boy I happened across Child Of Glass playing on TV. I imediately fell in love with the film, but haveing missed the beginning and unfortunately never catching it playing again, I didn't know the name of it. In fact I didn't even know it was a Disney film. However the film left such an impression on me that years later I would occasionaly question video stores about it giveing a brief synopsis. People sometimes would fondly recall the film but not it's name or where I could find it. With the internet I would on occasion briefly search for it with no success, till recently. I am pleased to know that others were impressed with the film as I was. However I am disapointed to find that it is no longer in print. How I would love to get it on DVD. Child Of Glass may not be a blockbuster film but it is clean entertainment for the family and an experience I would like to enjoy again and share with my children.

I loved this movie as a child and would love to see it come out on DVD. Even a VHS re-release would be great. I know that I and many other Gen-X'ers would LOVE to own it to share with our own children. This is a classic and one of my all time favorites -- please re-release!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia!!, May 31, 2003

Ok, I haven't seen this movie since I was about 9 years old - 19 years ago! - but I can still recite the 'riddle' the kids used to figure everything out:

'Sleeping lies the murdered lass.
Vainly cries the child of glass.
When the two shall be as one,
the spirit's journey will be done.'!!!

I'm not really a nostalgic person, and I certainly don't buy things for sentimental reasons, yet I would buy this movie in a heartbeat! I loved it so much when I was little! It had just the right blend of eerie music, 'believable' mystery, and happy resolution... It played perfectly on my budding romantic visions of ghosts and history. (I mean really, I changed my name to 'Inez' for months afterward and wouldn't listen to my mom when she tried to explain the proper French pronunciation!). Anyway, as soon as my eight-year-old daughter started asking about 'scary' movies, I thought of this one and ran to Hollywood Video, but no one behind the counter had even heard of it! So now I, too, will be contacting Disney to ask them to re-release 'The Child of Glas' ...One of the only GREAT corny movies Disney ever released!
