If you are planning to visit the San Francisco Bay Area, or already live there, you will enjoy reading my second book, "Staycation Destinations, Short Getaways In and Near the San Francisco Bay Area".  You can read a preview by clicking this link, then use the Look Inside feature.  Are you a member of Kindle Prime?  If so you can borrow the ebook version for free!

About the Author

Robert R. Talley is nearly a lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area.  Born in San Mateo, "because that's where my parents were when I decided to make the scene", he lived in San Francisco's Richmond District as a child and later as a teenager in Marin County.  He was graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School, College of Marin and San Francisco State.  He served in the U. S. Air Force and was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County.

In 1995 Mr. Talley retired from Civil Service as a real estate contracting officer for the Navy.  Mr. Talley is a California Notary Public and Mobile Signing Agent specializing in real estate and motor vehicle documentation signing services.  As a Certified Apostille Agent he also provides document signature verifications for persons who will be studying, working, getting married or relocating outside the United States.

In 2010 and 2011 Mr. Talley wrote his first book, Child on the Home Front, about growing up in the Bay Area during the World War II and the Korean War eras.  He has since written a second book, "Staycation Destinations, Short Getaways In and Near the San Francisco Bay Area".  Three other books, about paranormal experiences, a Civil War soldier and a vaudeville comedian, are in his "concept thinking" stages.

More About the Author

Robert Ross Talley lived in San Francisco as a child during World War II and across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County during the Korean War era. His first book, "Child on the Home Front", tells about his adventures and life experiences while growing up in the 1940s and '50s. As you will read in the book, just because there was a war on didn't mean a boy couldn't get into mischief. As one reader commented, the book reminded him of things we did as children that we don't want our grandchildren to do. But Robert has since stayed out of trouble long enough to graduate from Sir Francis Drake High School, College of Marin and San Francisco State. At times a banker, real estate broker and contracting officer, his professional life now centers around land use and transportation planning. He is also writing a series of articles about international travel and lessons learned based on his journeys in Latin America over more than twenty years. These articles can be seen on line at Yahoo! Contributor, Ezine and Examiner. Mr. Talley's recent award winning book is "Staycation Destinations - Short Getaways In and Near the San Francisco Bay Area". This unique guidebook has over 70 fun things to do and places to visit for adults, children and families. Many of the activities and events are sponsored by chartible or civic organizations so your patronage will both support good causes and entertain you as well. His web site is

Robert Talley is two years older and we both grew up in San Francisco in the 1940s.
We never met but we lived fairly near to each other.

I downloaded this book free via KDP Select on a free day. I would have paid for it.

The book brought back to memory many places and incidents as I grew up.
The author did a lot of research. You can be assured that dates, places, and activities are accurate.
Talley is an engaging writer making the book fun to read.

If you grew up in the 40s, if you are from the San Francisco Bay area, or if you want to read about what was happening on the west coast during WW-II, you will find this book a must-read.
