By A Customer
This review is from: Child Maltreatment: A Clinical Guide and Photographic Reference, Second Edition (2 Vol. Set) (Hardcover)
As a Criminal Investigator that works Child Abuse/Sex Abuse, I found this set to be an excellent source of information. Photographs are quality and help to illuminate the text. Covers intentional and accidental injury. I highly recommend this set to medical professionals who work in this field, especially SANE's. Also recommended for Social Services and Law Enforcment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Child Maltreatment: 2 Vol Set, March 11, 2001

I perform Child Protective Services as a social worker the first agency where I was employed had this two volume set available to the staff. The information contained was detailed and inclusive of all aspects of child abuse. It was a wonderful source of medical information that assisted me in determining the child abuse with signs and symptoms. I have been trying to locate this set since 1998 to use at my agency. I am hopeful that it will be published in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must" for anyone involved in the issue of Child Abuse, June 27, 2007
In the interest of full disclosure, Dr. Giardino serves on the board of directors of Justice for Children (JFC), of which I am Executive Director.

This two volume set is a "must have" resource for all of us involved in the issue of child abuse.

Volume I, the Clinical Guide contains 43 chapters with 7 sections:
* Physical maltreatment
* Neglect
* Sexual maltreatment
* Psychological maltreatment and developmental health issues
* Cultures at risk of child maltreatment
* Legal aspects and forensic issues
* Professional roles in investigation, treatment, and prevention

Volume II, the comprehensive photographic reference, has 19 chapters with 5 sections:
* Physical abuse
* Sexual abuse
* Criminal and psychological investigations
* Evaluation, equipment, and demonstrations
* Resources for child care professionals

Justice for Children was founded 20 years ago by a prosecutor (Randy Burton) in Houston, TX. In that position, he saw countless numbers of abused children who were not being protected by the very systems we taxpayers fund to protect them. The reasons for system failure are many but one cause which cuts across all disciplines is ignorance of the issue of child maltreatment.

Information, presented clearly and from a multidiscipline perspective, is the best way to remove the barrier that ignorance places in the path of protecting abused children. Building on the latest and best information from health care professionals, the editors of Volume III, have provided a tremendous resource for mandated reporters, and all people who are in law enforcement, criminal justice, children protective services, and all child advocates.

5.0 out of 5 stars The bible for child maltreatment cases, March 26, 2002
This review is from: Child Maltreatment: A Clinical Guide and Photographic Reference, Second Edition (2 Vol. Set) (Hardcover)
Too many child abuse petitions are being filed today based on bad medical information. This book helps distinguish for the prosecution and the defense the signs and symptoms that are abuse related and are not related to abuse. Aside from providing accurate and complete material necessary to cross-examine a witness in a child abuse case, it is a wealth of information on the experts in the field. Essential book for the child abuse defense attorney's library.
