Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a truly scholarly book. It provides a comprehensive and critical review of much of the research that has marked this area in the last ten years. Some sections are among the best of their kind that I have read. The book with its detailed, comprehensive, and scholarly approach to psychopathology goes well beyond the usual textbook." --David Shaffer, M.D., F.R.C.P. (London), F.R.C.Psych (London), Irving Philips Professor of Child Psychiatry, Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, Director, Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, New York State Psychiatric Institute

"Drs. Mash and Barkley have brought together some of the best clinician-researchers in the field of child psychology and child psychiatry in a comprehensive and timely review of critical topics in developmental psychopathology. This book offers a stimulating balance of theory, clinical wisdom, and practical recommendation which will be useful to the practicing clinician as well as to the student, the researcher, and to anyone interested in the well-being of children and adolescents." --Joseph Biederman, MD, Chief, Joint Program in Pediatric Psychopharmacology; Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School

"Current and relevant research included." --David B. Baker, Ph.D., University of North Texas; Course: Psych Research and Practicum, graduate level

"....A timely overview of the discipline as it stands today....The chapters are consistently well written, comprehensive, and on the cutting edge....this text provides both an excellent review of changes in the field of child psychopathology over the past decade and an exciting preview of the decade ahead." --Randall J. Russac in Science Books and Films

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a light read..., April 11, 2008

Mozo "casmyers" (Manitowoc, WI United States) - See all my reviews
The previous edition of this book was required reading for a Developmental Psychopathology course I completed as part of my graduate training program in educational psychology. Another more "reader-friendly" text was also required; however, I found myself referencing this book often as it is probably the definitive source of empirically based information in this subject area. I highly recommend this book for graduate students or professionals accustomed to reviewing research literature. Do not purchase this book if you are unfamiliar with chapters outlined by subsections with titles such as epidemiology, etiology, diagnostic considerations, differential diagnosis, comorbidity, and developmental outcomes.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent but advanced, October 4, 2008

I agree wholeheartedly with the product description and what the reviewers said. As a master's student in psychology, this is the most advanced text in psychology I have ever read. It requires patience, determination, and i would say an underlying love of the subject. however, if you want to know about the disorders and research on them, this is the book.

This textbook is an excellent reference guide for children's mental disorders. I used it to help study for my qualifying exams. It contains an enormous amount of research that is easily accessible using any library search engine.
