More About the Author

Dr. Robbie Adler-Tapia is a licensed psychologist who has worked with individuals impacted by trauma, attachment and dissociation for more than 25 years. With her doctoral study on the iatrogenic effects of foster care on children, she has developed a specialty with young children and their families especially with attachment, adoption, and trauma. Dr. Adler-Tapia's work as a psychologist, educator, researcher and writer has taken place in community mental health and child welfare settings in both Pennsylvania and Arizona. As the Clinical Director at Childhelp's Children's Center, she worked with an interdisciplinary team at a national non-profit center for children who are victims of crime with services funded by VOCA. Currently in private practice she provides counseling, consultation and psychological services for children and families referred by child welfare, law enforcement and the legal system. She also works with law enforcement, and in a forensic role as an expert witness in the Juvenile, Family, and Criminal Courts. She has been co-investigator on several research studies on the assessment and treatment of children. Along with her research and writing, teaching graduate coursework and supervising interns, her volunteer work has included spear heading the CEBC update, and application for SAMHSA approval for EMDR with children. Currently her writing projects include a book on integrating human development in psychotherapy and an edited book on dissociation, along with several chapters on integrating EMDR in the treatment of children in the child welfare system and children who have experienced sexual abuse. Dr. Adler-Tapia presents regularly at national and international conferences in addition to providing training on EMDR as part of EMDR HAP. She considers her most valuable training to be her marriage of twenty-one-years and the opportunity to parent three active teens.

Robbie Adler-Tapia PhD is well known and well respected in the EMDR community. With this book, Adler-Tapia has brought her expertise with children to a mass audience. Her integration of developmental psychology is applicable for all aged populations. Her inclusion of forms and contracts are extremely helpful as is her clear assistance with ethical and legel issues. Adler-Tapia also delineates how-to methods for treatment plans, assessment, and diagnosis. This book is a must for every clinician.

I am currently taking a graduate level nursing course focused on the mental health of children and adolescents. This book is comprehensive and informative. I have identified many ways to approach my future practice as an advanced practice psychiatric nurse using the principles and concepts presented in this book. It is a must have for any psychiatric nurse or mental health care practitioner who works with children and adolescents.
